New Posts button, not working?

On occasion I have experienced the "New Posts" search function not working for me but before it had always started working again the next day. But now, the "New Posts" function was not working for me last night when I was at home and it is still not working for me the next day at work.

Just after posting this message I tried the "New Posts" function and now it worked.

It wasn't working for me for like a week. It was VERY annoying.

This week it has been working fine.

I can't remember the last time the "show new posts" button worked for me. Got to be close to two months...but I keep pressing every time I return, thinking this time might be different. Pavlov was right...

I'm still getting this problem on and off. Hopefully someone is still looking into the cause. It doesn't happen with any other sites I visit.

Broken for me as well. When looking at a forum index the topics w/ new posts since my last visit aren't being marked either. This has been going on for weeks and I generally just leave when it happens - no sense wading though ALL topics just to see if i can remember where I left off last time. :sadwave:

Not sure what the problem is because it's functioning fine for me.

Remember that when you are NOT logged in it will say "View Today's Active Threads" and clicking on it will give you a list of all threads in which a post has occurred in the last 24 hours - even if you've already seen them before.

When you ARE logged in it will say "View New Posts" and clicking on it will only show you the threads in which a new post has occurred SINCE THE LAST TIME YOU LOGGED IN. So if it's been 3 days since you last logged in it will show all the new oosts over the last 3 days. If it's only been 8 hours since you last logged in it will only show you the new posts over the last 8 hours.

Therefore, if you log in (and remember automatic log in is an option), log out, then relog in again right away, hitting the "View New Posts" button will give a result that says "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

I don't know why some people get this problem and others don't. I have auto login turned on, and even if the caption says that my last visit was three days ago, I'll sometimes get no search results.

To: Gatorgreg or any T4R admin,
I would like to see an option which allows one to resume viewing posts where they left off. For instance, when I am away for a week and return to view about 15 pages of postings at a time. Most often I can not read all of the pages in one setting, therefore I save the page as a html. By doing this, I can sometimes trick the system into resuming the posting from where I left off and reloading the newer ones again. But more often than not the system tells me to specify a search using words. Word search only allows you to find posts by one forum by one forum.

I'd like to see this site be able to search all forums via a date. If you logged in, read some posts and somehow got logged out by a timeout or whatever; then one could return and search from the date of the last post he/she read across ALL forums. Please do a research to see if this option can be added. I love to read "ALL" of the posts on this forum and do NOT enjoy missing any of them. Thanks!
