New Problems arise...3VZE died on me while on the freeway

Yeah, that's right. Dangerous too because my brake power cut out!

I managed to exit to my house and hobble the block home with it dying another 3-4 times.

It seems to idle ok, but any pressure on it, especially UP HILL and it seems to just die.

Also, lately right before the problem occured I started noticing a very unusual CIRCULATION OF POWER. The Truck would kind of LUNGE then let off then LUNGE then let off.

I'm guessing maybe its the fuel filter, or the fuel pump. But it may also be an electrical issue, or sensors? Alternator was just tested and it seems ok and I just put in a deep cycle battery so that can't be it.

Any insight guys?

EDIT: Or after reading a couple other threads, I believe the KEY aspect though is the fact that it was kind of lunging (as if I was in the wrong gear and under powered), I let off throttle, disengaged clutch and rengaged clutch at 3k rpms it was still lunging.

Here's some possibilities I found through the forum
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT)
Knock sensor (Code 52)
Thottle position sensor
EGR Valve
MAF
Fuel filter/sediment

If it idles fine and gives you problems while the engine is at higher rpms I'd suspect a fuel filter. It's cheap and if its not the problem, it's still good to change once in a while.

Agree with the above.

Did this just start happening? Did you get any CEL (Check Engine Light)?

Wouldn't hurt to check the fuel pressure along with replacing the fuel filter. Do a search on how to check fuel pressure. I'd do it, but I haven't had my coffee yet...LOL

Your fuel pressure regulator may be suspect too, but do the above first. Change the regulator requires removing the intake plenum. Not hard, but a PITA for a simple part change.

to update you guys... spend 2 hours, replaced fuel filter with Fram. Drove around for 20mins no problem. Once it warmed up. stalled at 30mph around 3k. Then stalled again with the clutch disengaged while coasting down a hill. and then wouldnt even stay on for 1 second. Would start and stall instantly :/

Had it towed to the mechanic for him to checkout in the morning. :frusty:

tough luck
make sure to keep the rest of us classic onwers posted.... might help us out down the line
good luck

Solution Found! Here I am thinking that the MAF doesnt have the ability to kill the engine.

It ended up being the MAF connect wires has about 3 or 4 cuts just deep enough to cause gaps in information being sent when the engine bay heated up. MAF Sensor and surround wires fixed and repaired. no more problem! :clap2:

I'll be posting pics of the truck this weekend, but here's one for now from my iphone...

Great news! Always glad to hear when repairs don't involve lots of parts being replaced.

"On the road again!"
