New RCI skid plate design?

Just put on a skid set from RCI and can’t help but notice the front skid plate looks different. To be honest it looks crinkled like I smashed it in on a rock or something, and I preferred the old look better, but I assume it’s an evolution of the previous version and there are benefits? Let’s discuss so I can feel better...

I think It has something to do with the KDSS bar being different vs. non-KDSS.

Non KDSS skid on my 2016. It's literally touching my radiator support bars, no way it could tuck any tighter.

this must be a redesign for KDSS, [MENTION=90834]RCI Offroad[/MENTION] previous version looked more like non-KDSS but came out further over the front bolts and folded backward with holes drilled for bolt access

The protruding box is to make room for a Diff drop if one need/wants to use one. That way u don't have to make room by lowering the skid.

Same look as mine that I installed last fall. After the first few times you bash it on a rock you forget all about it looking different. The older/other design may score more IG points but this design works just fine.

I think getting the other plate that extends from the skid to the front bumper plastic will also make it aesthetically look better.

I, and another member here are dealing with this exact issue!! I’m going to be up on the rack this Saturday, and that is on the list of things to look at. I’ve removed my S-brackets to gain clearance, but I’m still hitting my diff on the skid, and If I can’t figure it out to my satisfaction this weekend, I may be looking to get a new IFS from RCI.

Yea, mine is KDSS. Doesn't bother me. I installed the black metal piece from RCI that replaces the factory plastic, then added the TRD decal that is supposed to be for the TRD Pro skid plate.

I noticed your front valance is missing. Mine is too now after I drove through about a foot of water fast (looks exactly like yours, I'll have to take a pic and post). Is this the same thing that happened to you?

Took a pic and added it without my valance.

I got the Toytech Boss lift on mine. I now have 12" of ground clearance at the RCI skid plate. Not sure you would get any more with the non-KDSS. Overall the Toytech Boss I think was supposed to be a 3" lift but I got 4. With new tires I should have 12.5". If I need anymore than that I am on the wrong trail.

And while Toyota says the ground clearance of a TRD Off-Road is 9 inches, it isn't, mine was 8" flat. That's pretty pathetic but they have to squeeze gas mileage out of it from the factory.

there are threads in the past, that the non-kiss version skid plate sits up a inch higher b/c of how low the KDSS actuator hangs. You can see where the inch is in cjdewese pic.

One of the good things about RCI is they keep evolving, so if the newer one gives better grand clearance I rather have that.

I have the old one, that everyone thinks looks better, but it hangs low or visually it seems lower

Installed last Spring. Steel, with filler plate. The first filler plate they sent me didn't fit, oops, but they made good right away.

I don't do a lot of fast driving thru puddles anymore. Sometimes I can't resist, but I've found that screws shit up.

Plus mechanics comment when the underside of your hood is muddy.

I tried to cross a creek fast (1.5-2 feet?) and it came off. Lol. The immense force of the water ripped it right off.

are those strips remnants of the valance?
