Going to put new tires on the 1996 4 x 4 SR5 3.4 L and wanted to see what you guys were liking that worked great on the road and were also good on dirt roads, snow and minor 4 wheeling?

I had the Firestone wilderness ATs on my ford truck and they did well in the snow and not too much road noise either

Curious about this as well, I have a set of BFG KOs on my Tacoma which have always been great as an every day tire, would like to try the KO2s. My 88 has Goodyear Wrangler MTRs, which are great offroad but kinda heavy and they are wearing funny.

I love the duratracs and they seem they should be ok for what you said. Idk about snow though I am in Texas. They wore great (rotated every 5k). They start with 18/32 or whatever and after 20k miles they had 13-14/32.

You'll get a lot of mixed crap for answers so definitely use the search button before posting way over talked topics like this.

I use KM2s now. They sing some but idc I don't drive it much.

I'd be looking into a P-rated all terrain. The Firestones you mentioned are a good tire. Michelin LTX AT2s are an excellent tire as well.

My BFG K/O AT (I guess 1's or originals) E load 10 ply have never once let me down or left me wanting. 265 75 r16's been great in everything I have thrown at them, mud, sand, snow, heavy rain (hurricane weather) trails, light rocking, and still get decent gas mileage out of them, not to mention they've lasted 4 years and a bit of offroading and are just starting to show wear. I haven't even worn through the mold sprues all the way yet. Roughly 30k miles on them. I've run them aired down to 12psi in the sugar sand, normally I run 37 psi in them but I like a truck to ride like a truck.

All you need is a P rated standard load all terrain tire.

From where? Consumer Reports? Your local rim shop that specializes in installing 24's on out-of-warranty Range Rovers? Some dude on your block with a lifted super duty that has smoke stacks and a confederate flag?

No, the only thorough objective comparison test I can find.

I've not seen anyone do a better job. Also, the guy that set up the test did work for Toyota on the FJ and Tacoma specifically testing different tires.



The one caveat is when this test was done the KO2 was not released yet. To my understanding the biggest improvement made in the KO2 was to minimize problems with hydroplaning.

Toyo Open Country AT2s.

Excellent tread pattern clears mud and debris pretty well while remaining quiet on the highway, charges through standing water on the roads, AND comes with a 65,000 mile warranty. Worth every penny in my opinion.
