THE WAIT IS OVER!
After reading many posts and experiencing first hand the limitations of "other" T4R w/RDS (JBL) dash kits that state they will fit a 7 inch DDIN unit, I thought I would do a little research, and boy was it worth it! As most of you know, i recently installed a AVIC-Z3 in my T4R Limited, yet due to the radio being JBL and an unusual DDIN design by Toyota, I had to alter/cut/hack the Metra kit to allow for the display to fold down, and to cover up the sides so it could look half way decent. Well, I didnt like the look, and would not settle for this....so, I called around. I called Metra, and they didn't give a $hit. I called American International, same thing. Then, I called Scosche, and talked to Jay, a very knowledgable rep who said, "thats funny, we just finished our test fit of the new Toyota TA2079B DDIN kit on a 07' 4Runner Limited w/RDS (JBL), and it fits perfect!" So, i said, "cool...thats great and all...but, what head unit did you install??" Then the great news came...he said, "we installed a Kenwood DNX8120!...and, yes, it has a fold down display that WILL NOT RUB ON THE KIT!" SOLD!!! I asked when the kit will be available...he said mid July. Jay was also nice enough to send me a picture of the kit. So, for all those who have been searching and modifying other kits....i say, "don't bother!" This new kit will be worth the wait! At last, there is hope for RDS T4R's...Here is a picture of it, enjoy:
