New Sliders/Running Boards

So I finally got the drivers side all figured out. I thought I was going to put a flat piece of steel on the top with a gritty powder coat but kinda like the looks of them the way they are. I also might throw some diamond plate on there so they look like the ARB sliders.

In order to get more clearance on my SR5 I removed the rocker panels and trimmed about 3" off the bottom so they are even now with the front body mount. Its not as high as the TE but I did not feel like ordering TE rockers and it did not look good by just removing altogether. I think this is a good compromise.

They are just primered right now, I want to wait a couple days/weeks to make sure there is nothing I want to change before coating.

This same design will work with SR5's and Limited's without modding the rockers, they just hang down lower.

I am interested to see if people out there like the design and would like a set themselves. I have talked to people here in Denver that are willing to make me a bunch of sets. If there is interest I will explore even further to get a firm price set. I am thinking they would run $400-500.

They are made of 2" square steel 1/4" thick, with 1/4" steel plate brackets against the frame and 1 5/8" OD .140 steel tubing.

These are completly bolt-on with 1/2" hardware and will hold the weight of the vehicle.

I will post some more pics when I get them coated.

you made these yourself? they look good. i'd be interested in a pair with gritty black powder coat on top for foot traction... i don't like the diamond steel plated look and would not purchase a set if they have this.

how long do you think it will take before they can be shipped out?

Yeah I made these as the prototype. Probobly have a friend do the rest of them as he has a fab shop and this is the sort of thing he does. I can easily have them make them just as you see. They can probobly be shipped in about two weeks. PM me and we can discuss the details.

I like that concept...ask your friend how much something like this would run? I like to find something that'll offer both...step/slider

I'm looking at about 5" of step width so maybe 6" projection overall?

It looks like they are running $500 including powder coating. It would be very easy to make the step wider than mine, not a problem there. The only problem is I have a SR5, so the slider runs underneath my trimmed rocker (underneath front body mount). On your TE your front mudflap covers front body mount (I think) and you have no rocker panel. Basically the current setup would sit a couple inches below your door and not look too good. I do not know if plans are in the works for the TE. We would need to find a nice donor car in CO to test fit.

Any thoughts on bolt on vs. weld on, BFLAN?

My worry of weld on is what happens if it needs work under the area where the rails are welded??

Weld-on gives people mounting options after they do a body lift. The problem is not everyone can weld or have a welder.

Bolt-on allows most folks to install it themselves and saving the cost of shop time. But with a body lift, there will be a gap left between the slider and body.

Mine are Bolt on. I made them this way in order to provide a more viable option for others that do not have access to a welder. This allows anyone to bolt on in their garage and perhaps take off and sell if they sell the vehicle or move to another 4runner. If you want to tell me the length between front body mount and end of rear rocker I can take my modified rocker off and see if its the same on my sr5. If it is I can build yours according to your specs and make sure they fit prior to shipping. Right now they are costing around $500 powder coated. This may go down if I can make multiple sets 10 or more. But currently one at a time they are around $500. Its about $150 alone for metal, another $200 to fab, $20 for hardware and another $100 for powder coat.

I am working on getting a lot of pics together to throw on a website so people have something to look at along with a list of options prior to ordering. Let you all know when this is up and running.

are they still mounted on the alum. beam that runs along rocker?

I will get some photos up tomorrow.

I basically cut 2 1/4" down from the chrome trim piece on the rocker. That leaves enough room to cover the mount on the front so you dont have to get TE mudflaps.

If I remember correctly, remove a couple bolts and body clips on both the front and back wheel well. There are two screws inside the door jamb, one under front door, one under back door. Once everything is loose the whole rocker panel comes off the car.

I then cut the alum. beam off the rocker panel, leaving just the plastic cap. (Tinsnips) Since shedding so much weight I just elected to not worry about keeping the alum. cap. I really do not think it is needed. Mine do not move around and my sliders are directly under it.

I marked a straight line 2 1/4" below chrome, and cut with die grinder. Mounted back on, replaced screws in doors and man what a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple shots of front and back rocker from both underneath/behind and from the front. The shots of stuff on the ground is what I cut off.

I cut mine 2 1/4" below chrome trim. But keep in mind the sliders I am building will require a cut 2 1/2" below chrome, minimizing the gap between top of slider and bottom of rocker panel. If your interested
