new subs cause old sub in 2003 to start popping

I just put in some new 8inch subs and as soon as i turned on the car the old sub started popping. I unhooked the new subs and the popping stopped. I kept the stereo running and touched the wires on and off to listen up close and as soon as the new subs were connected, the popping started. I kept them connected and turned down the lows, and the popping went down extremely. Is that preventable? I had subs connected before, but with an amp. The subs blew because amp after amp doesnt work. So Im going to tap into the shielded wires and go off of them before they get to the amp. If anyone can give me any advice on this project please do so. It will be greatly appreciated

sounds like a wiring prob....check all of your connections
