New Suspension, need some advice

Hey everybody, been a minute since I've been on here. I currently have the daystar 2.5-1.5 lift on my 4Runner but want to change it up and get a little higher. I've been eyeing the Toytec Ultimate lift and a 3" OME setup. I was sondering what y'all feel is more dependable. The only type of off roading I do is beach driving. I'd appreciate any information y'all can give. Thanks!

AfroWookie whats the budget? if all you do is beach driving why not do 5100's, a solid dependable shock, and 885's in front (OME) with the toytec super flex in rear. it'll be a firm but responsive ride, and its not gonna break the bank at all, but is still very versatile.

That a lot of money and labor for a .5 inch gain.
5 inch Chaos lift (wide base) or a SAS?

That's what I thought also, but after looking tirelessly at all the other guys running the DS lift, it just seems that mine didn't get quite the same result. Maybe it's just me?

I bought and had professionally installed a ALLPRO lift for my 82 toy pickup. The lift stated 4-5 inches, it was closer to 7-8 inches.

Accessories such as heavy bumpers or winch can add to springs compressing. So can high milage.

How much lift would this setup give me, roughly? Also, where's a good place to order these parts from?

I've got the V6, thanks for the links. I'll take a look at them. Cheaper is definitely better, but I also want good ride quality and I've heard that OME is a great lift with very good, if not excellent, ride quality

Chaos lifts are popular with the guys running dunes or deserts. Lots of travel and decent amount of lift.

You already have the basic components of a lift, all you need is new springs to get your desired height and ride.

Going beyond the OEM A-arms and other suspension components is far more costly.

Save your money and find the spring(s) that are right for you. One piece of information that is key for someone to sell you the right springs is weight by axle. When I did my Allpro lift I went to a truck weighing station and paid $15 to get my vehicle weighed by axle. If they dont ask you for that information you're most likely talking to someone who wants to sell you something out of the box made to fit every vehicle without much customization.

Ryan,

Obviously everybody will have different opinions on this. I have gone round and round with this suspension struggle for over two years. Most will tell you to get a suspension that applies to what you will be doing with your 4Runner. If you have the money saved up, I say go ahead and pull the trigger on what you want. I truly believe in you get what you pay for in this scenario. Every time I save up enough to get a suspension, I go and buy something else. I have literally put my credit card info in the payment page for FOX and Icon twice and for what ever reason decided to sleep on it first. So I am still trying to figure out what to do with a suspension. When I do get a suspension I plan on spending money and a good bit of it and it will probably be an Icon setup. Way overkill for me, but again, you get what you pay for! Good luck!

Not to sound like a total N00b here, but on the Toytec page, that price is per spring, correct? I don't see where it says the price for a pair or single. the other page for the shocks says that price is for a pair

I actually just ordered 5100's all around, toytec super flex springs for the rear, and have some tacoma springs for the front. I plan to set the front 5100's at 2.5 with the tacoma springs, and should get around 3-3.5 inches up front and 2 in the rear. I hope it winds up looking good. And I'm in my lift for less than 500 bucks total. I'll let you know how I like it once i get it all installed.

I actually just thought of something. I have some FJ coils for the rear that were sold to me as stock, but I really think they're aftermarket upgrades, just not sure what kind. Here's a picture of them installed with the Daystar spacers. Would 5100's work with this setup in the rear? I could save some money and just get new coils in the front and 5100's?

It looks like you have quite a bit of lift in the rear...I'm no expert but I believe that would work. I haven't looked much into front springs but I believe the OME 884 will give you 3 inches or a little more up front, and then if you have fj springs plus daystar 1.5 rear, you probably have around 2 inches or maybe more rear lift already, and could just swap out the shock for 5100's. I think it would workout nicely..if not you could always upgrade rear springs.

all prices are price per pair, i believe 885's are around $160 a pair.

based on the pic you posted, 5100s would be fine for the rear, and 885's would be a good pairing in the front to make it just about level, 884's would leave a little rake

Thanks for the help. I'm about 99% sure I'm going with the 5100's all around, 885 springs in the front and my aftemarket springs and spacers in the rear. I think I'd get a bit more height than the ToyTec Ultimate and for less costs. Plus for the offroading I do, I think the coilovers may be overkill. Also, I probably need the differential drop, right?

This is the only offroading I do...

It's done. Ordered 4 Bilstein 5100s and OME 885s for the front. Going to put whatever aftermarket springs I have in te back along with the DS spacers

So I'm going to install 5100's all around this weekend along with 885's up front. What setting should I put the Bilsteins on?
