New to the site. What's up eveyone?. This is my second Toyota. Just sold my 08 FJ 4x4. Paid it off and bought an older 4Runner. Unfortunately, ownership starting off on a bad note, my 04 V8 4WD has a leak coming from the shift actuator. I read all the posts. Took it to a local transmission shop. They've had it for 2 weeks now trying everything possible to not have to replace the shift actuator which costs roughtly $1,100! After replacing the seals and putting it together.(whick does involve dropping the transfer case) the center locking differential light and 4lo light kept flashing. Once hooked up to the computer, it showed the gear timing was off. Tried to re-time the gears, but that has to be done one by one and then put back together after each step and re-taken apart! Headache! There are no indicators or instructions on how to do so from Toyota. Basically, a new shift actuator has to be purchase. There are no used available. Better to go with new one any how. So, with the local shop labor and a new actuator from Toyo, roughtly $1,700 big ones to fix!
