New T4R TRD OFP Owner Looking For Suspension Guidance

Hey everyone,

I am really hoping to get some guidance because I am flat out lost. I originally wanted to purchase the 2019 TRD Pro OEM Fox suspension because I really like the stance of the TRD Pro and it looked functional but after reading a few threads around here, it looks like I can get better quality for less money. I am torn because I have no idea what to look for anymore (I had my heart set on the TRD Pro suspension).

Here is what I will be doing:
I live in Los Angeles and will be driving on paved roads 90% of the time. I just bought a 2019 T4R ORP. I am looking for something that would be great for easy to moderate off road trails. I am not planning on doing any rock climbing or extreme mudding, although I wouldn't mind splashing around in some light mud. I want comfort and functionality (body roll and nose dive is a real thing in these). I am about to buy Cooper LT 265/70/17 C tires (I know it is a little overkill for my needs but like I said, I'd like to do some moderate trails). I wouldn't mind a mild lift similar to the TRD Pro. I don't want to do much or any modification to the wheel wells or mud flaps. I want a set it and forget it type solution. After seeing the cost of the TRD Pro suspension, I'd like to spend lest than that. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you everyone for your time.

I recommend letting the wallet cool off while you spend a few days and do research on these forums.

There are a bunch of good suspension setups to obtain, you just need to do the research and decide what you want.


Just to name a few of the common ones that have a good reputation, and wouldn't be a bad choice:

Thank you for your response. I guess what I was looking for are specific models. There are so many and everything starts becoming a blur after a bit. This is just as hard as researching and finding tires lol.

I went with Dobinsons. Still very happy with my choice.

I just bought a Bilstein Stage 2 kit from YotaMafia.com. I havent installed it but did lots of research and heard great things about this setup. My Limited 4runnner is a mall crawler with occasional camping trip so I didn't want a $3000 reservoir shock setup.

I'm upgrading from a Daystar 2.5/1.5 leveling kit that's gonna be for sale soon.
 
I'd recommend driving it around stock for a bit. The car is actually pretty capable in stock form. After awhile, you could decide what you want in a new suspension upgrade.
 
the stock suspension sucks, I have 1,300 miles or so on my 2019 and I hate the suspension. its like an old floaty Cadillac.
 
Its not the greatest but it does get the job done. Newer suspension would remove a lot of the brake dive but I still think the OP would best be suited by experiencing the stock suspension and determining what improvements they'd like.

I think I put about 2500 miles on mine and a lot of trails before deciding what I wanted from an upgrade.
 
I have a 2019 TRD OFP with less than 10k miles. Suspension is number 1 on my list and I am leaning towards the toytec kits. they seem to be highly rated for a 3 inch lift. I am driving it stock until I notice a difference and I will swap it out, I am also doing wheels and tires when I do the lift. I kile the Boss kit because its under 1500 bucks, I don't know about the others but we do basic overlanding for now and since the 4Runner is only a few months old it will be a huge transformation. Just remember you can buy one and if you don't like it you can sell it and try another one. I looked at the Eibach kit, never knew about the yota mafia ones or dobson.

Looking at first page of linked thread they sit nose high, coming from F150 that kit sits high and yeah I know its selectable. what's your recommend setting for going up in front with a slight rake for a 19orp, thanks
 
You are going to get so many different opinions and options. That's a good and bad thing. So here is mine.

A good choice is the Bilstein 6112s with the matching rears (don't remember the part number). It is basically the 16-18 TRD Pro shocks but with height adjustability up to 2.5". This would give you the milder lift you are looking for now and allow you to go higher if you want to change it up without spending any more money later. Another advantage is that they come with 600# springs which are a little heavier then the stock Pros. They will still ride great stock but will handle a little more front end weight if you were to add and bumper or something later on. I'm running these springs on my Pro and I'm very happy with them.

Good luck on what ever you choose.
 
I'm on page 24 of the Eibach thread - I'm sold. That's the kit I'll be buying. I like the idea of simple plug and play - 1 size fits all (adjustable). The reviews look great - less nose dive / better handling on-off the road.

I have the following sitting in my garage:

Warn 10022 Winch Mount
TRD front Skid Plate

A Warn VR10 Winch with steel cable is shipping to the house.
 
You won’t be disappointed with the eibach kit. I have it on my 17 orp and love it. Ride quality is excellent and it sits nice and level now. I fit 285 ko2’s with minor trimming to the bumper and the fender liner mod. No rubbing at all. No BMC needed.

I came in here to suggest this since it is on my radar as well however my truck is kept in the garage and with a lift, it will not fit :(
 
This is great. This is helping me narrow down my research. Things were starting to get a bit overwhelming because there are so many choices.

You much have a short garage. Mine fits no problem. Thank God it does because my dumb a$$ did the lift inside the garage and then had a moment of panic. LOL
