New T4R with 4 CARFAX RECORDS? WHY?

Hi Guys,
Just because I had nothing else to do, I decided to enter the VIN of the new T4R that my dealer was going to get for me in to CARFAX. It came back saying that there were 4 records on this particular T4R.
Is this typical? Can a new T4R have 4 records on it already even before someone has bought it?

I am a little worried- any input would be great!

You may want to pay for a Carfax Report to check that out completely.. Small investment to be made for a large purchase.

It's probably nothing but better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't waste my money on a report. All new cars have carfax records for manufacturing date and other items dealing with the delivery and registration of the vehicle.

Actually, let me clarify, from a friends experience, he had a couple of carfax records on his new truck and they turned out to be one dealer transferring/buying the vehicle from another, his purchase, and his registration of the vehicle if Im not mistaken. Like I said, i wouldn't worry too much about it, but you might feel better getting the report if it really bothers you. I'd imagine carfax makes a lot of money on first time buyers check this information on the free report and then getting worried...seems kind of fraudulent to me.

By the way, I just checked mine that I bought last July and it has 4 records.

If carfax said "no records found" would you pay for the report? 'nuff said.

if you are AAA member, you can get one for free. I have used this several times. A lot of what you see is dealer transfers, when it got accepted at port. Even if you have to pay $50 (don't know how much they cost) or make the dealer provide one? I would get it for piece of mind.

Be careful of relying on a 'CARFAX' statement! My '06 Highlander had $14000.00 worth of front end damage, had a police report issued and was reported to the insurance company. Before I turned the vehicle in a year later I bought a CARFAX statement for my VIN to see what was reported...NOTHING WAS ON THERE ABOUT MY VEHICLE BEING INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT!!!! :wtf:

Now I take those reports with a grain of salt.

I would tend to agree. I sold my truck and pulled a car fax on it so I knew what others were seeing, and also to hand out to interested parties (as long as it turned out good ) and was surprised at the lack of into on it. It was never in an accident (knock on wood) but it did have a LOT of repairs, none were listed or indicated that it was even in for service.

Similar experience here, with a twist. I had a car that had 16k worth of damage that was repaired by a dealer (who did a poor job, as litigation would later prove). I sold it to another dealer and I took a bath on it. That dealer turned around and sold it to a customer and did not disclose that the car had been hit. The buyer ran a CARFAX on it and it showed nothing.

The buyer sued the dealer after he was in an accident and during that repair they discovered the car had been in a previous accident and wasn't repaired properly.

Real messy. Dealer lost. I was a witness for the plaintiff. CARFAX is only as good as the information that gets entered into it.

read the fine print on the carfax homepage. I am surprised carfax wasnt sued. Didnt they used to have some sort of guarantee?

I had disclosed to the dealer that the car had been hit. They did not disclose that to the buyer. Hence the dealer was sued.
