New Tires for '04 4Runner V8 Sport

Hey Everyone- first time poster here.

So I've had my 4runner for 6 years, and I think the OEM Dunlop tires need to be changed out. I've got just under 60,000 miles out of them, and so they did a pretty decent job for me.

I don't do much offroading (if any), and really just want a tire that's durable, and quiet when driving on city/highways. Any recommendations?

Another question- the guy at the tire dealer is telling me they only have the 265/70/17 and not the 265/65/17. Will the 70s work on the 2004 4runner 4WD v8 Sport?

While I agree, a very good tire, I'd also like to suggest something that's very good, and less expensive. BFG Long Trail T/A Tour. I've got them on my runner and love them. Quiet, handle very well, and ride smooth.

Let us know what you end up putting on. :)

Really? I've heard a few people say they don't like them.

I have limited exposure... I was around 2 vehicles with the old generation of the Long-trail, not too impressive. 2-3 years ago they introduced a "new & improved" version. I have 2 friends with them, 1 has a Chevy 1500 and the other a F150. Both love them as a road/rain tire. Neither has input on off-road/snow performance. I have driven the 1500 Chevy quite a bit, they're very nice...

I haven't ridden on the old Long Trails, but comparing them side by side off car, i'm not impressed. The Long Trail Tour though I'm very happy with as an on road/SoCal rain tire. I haven't taken them off road or through snow, but for my purposes and driving style (semi-aggressive, I tend to think my 4Runner is a sporty car) I love them. So far i've got 15k on them and am very happy. I fully expect to get 60k out of them.
 
Michelin LTX M/S2 :thumb3: though pricey for a street/highway tire, but with your driving style, you only spend for a set once every 5-6 years.
Weird that you are not complaining with the Dunflops, so I think the BFG Radial Long Trail mentioned above will also be OK at lower price than Michelins. I can say that they are also comfortable and quite tires

Also, get tires in stores that sells fast..ex. Costco, Sams Club. Their installers have much experience mounting their stocks..something they do everyday same brand... and you are sure their rubbers are new, than buying online or stores though cheaper but will just let you come back in days, probably they'll ship old stocks from other branch. Old rubbers can have balancing problems others are complaing about.

The size's he'd be looking for (265/65/17 and 265/70/17) are both common enough, especially the 265/70 that the stock should be new (no more than 8-12 months old, worst case). Personally, i've had crappy experiences at Costco Tire Center, though I've never been to Sam's Club.

So I ordered the Michelin LTX MS/2's from discounttiredirect. Should have them on my 4runner by this weekend. Looking forward to a smooth, quiet ride.

The Michelin LTX MS/2's are on my ride, and they are indeed significantly quieter with superior handling. Many thanks for the recommendations on this board.

I got the four tires- 265/65/17 for $790 on discounttiredirect.com, and with the $70 mail-in rebate- $720 total- so $180 per tire. Installation at a local place here in NYC was another $100.
 
Resurrecting an old thread here... but I have the BFG Radial Long Trail T/A's and they are nowhere near as quite at the 06 Sport I test drove that had Michelin's on it.

I too will be going with Michelin's when these are wear out.
