New tires im going to try!!what you guys think?

Yes,it does seem after some reading retreads have come along ways in term of performance and durability but for me part of my mind is happy paying $800 for my Duratracs vs $550 for the retreads but may be a perfect option for those who don't want to pay nearly a grand for a set of tires.

man i got quoted from discount and lez's 1.2K for bfg's mt's mounted and balanced

i can literally get 2 pairs of the treadwrights for that price. not knocking you ron, it's just that blows my mind that those are so expensive. it's not that i don't want a real pair of bfg's and the piece of mind you speak of it's just the price thing, even if i only get 20-30K per set of tires i should be about even with a set of bfg's, it's just crazy to me......or are the guys in these tire shops trying to rip me off? does 1.2k out the door sound right to you guys?

DONT BUY RETREADS!!

Especially for offroad tires. I've never seen a set last longer than 6 months with offroad use. I bought a set once cause they were cheap and looked cool, but one tire shredded itself on the highway within a week, and the others delaminated to varying degrees within the next few months. They don't deal well being aired down, they hate flexing on rough terrain, they hate sudden changes in traction levels and they have lousy lateral strength and stability. Retreads have a bad rep for good reason.

Maybe run them as a spare or on a trailer or something, but just like others have said, you will definitely get what you pay for (or less) with these.

man every one is hating on retreads, they come with 2 year warranty and 24,000 mile. and i have not found one bad review on any of there new designs, i looked for few hours. so il be a ginny pig for these i aint scart lol :lookout:

Wondering if everyone understands what a retread tire is. Not trying to knock anyone, just curious.

Want to make sure people are aware of what they are getting into, and why others are hesitant about them.

With my Duratracs I paid just over $800 but that does include lifetime rotations and balancing and the free replacement certificates which extends well past 24k miles/2 years and I off road quite a bit in the summer and throwing off roading into the mix may be an issue despite what the reviews said concerning off roading and those reviewers don't go past a few months running retreads and I plan on getting close to 50k and 6-7 years from my Goodyears.

I know the technology has improved with retreads but I don't want to take a chance of getting a bad one with minimal warranty coverage meaning they don't cover any damage caused by the road or you so the cost of a possible blowout,unrepairable tire or off road headaches doesn't make the savings worth it to me.

Well I have no issue running retreads on my trailers and even on my Big Rig. I can tell you a few things about retreads. They are a band of rubber laminated to an old carcass to add life to it. There are a few Posts about Manufacture Date and how Age is important to use left of a tire. I also know that on a Commercial vehicle it is ILLEGAL to put a retread on a front tire. That being said, the technology has come a long way and so has the reliability of them.

On side note I got 5qty 285/75 Nitto TG's for $800 mounted balanced OTD. I think 4 were going to be around $640

Those are a goodyear wrangler MT copycat, the tread pattern looks exactly Goodyear MT

The price on the rethreads look inviting, on the other hand I would not used them on my car because it would make me feel a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully the tires can give you a lot of worry free miles.

All I am going to say, is you get what you pay for!

I understand the "you get what you pay for" thing totally!.. Not going to argue that a lot.. But!!.. On the other hand we pay a lot for certain "name brands" in this country.. Those names brands may have the current "cool" factor or, lots of advertising cost or lots of overhead... I have no doubt my $25 jeans are just as good as those $125 jeans, etc etc..

I also understand not everyone can afford health insurance much less a 800 or $900 set of tires so sometimes you have to do what you have to do.. Even if that means cheap tires... I myself would lean towards a name brand tire but I have also myself googled quite a bit looking for info on these Treadwright tires and have found possibly less negative feedback than I would if I googled a name brand tire.. So far I've only read 99% good feedback except from those that have never actually had them...

just over a year ago I put on my 97, the Yokahoma Geolander AT's, they were $105 or so from tire rack, $75 shipping plus another $40 to have mounted, that's $535 total, installed for name brand tires. Now, my wife and kids ride in my 4runner and I certainly don't want anything to happen to that cargo.

I was behind a pontiac transport van crusing down the turnpike a few years ago, 75 mph, when the left rear tire blew out, tore up the back end of his van and sent him right into the guard rail, and that was on a low to the ground van. Not saying he had retreads on, but I've seen the damage a blowout can do and I certainly don't want to add that extra variable of a retread into my everyday driving when I don't have to....just saying....

$550 for retreads? That's ridiculous. I wouldn't put retreads on mine even if they were free. Then again, I'm not suicidal. I paid $660 for my terra grapplers (with free rotations of course).

where the hell ar you guys getting these tires for cheap i was quoted 1k for those at lez's

I didn't get an alignment. Bought the terra grapplers (265/75's) a year ago at discount tire - $660. Looks like somehow they run $750 now...$720 for 265/70's. Even at that price I think you'd have to be an idiot to buy retreads for $550. Although I think you'd have to be an idiot to buy retreads at any price

I found a wholesaler on the tires in LA and then made a local shop match the price. It was a steal since the lowest I had found for the 285's had been 190 ea. The local shop told me that the price he matched was only $2 more then his cost.

I was still flip-flopping on another set of TGs or the Duratracs and I asked the salesman at Discount if he'd give me the Goodyears for the price of the Nittos since I was unsure of their performance and he didn't hesitate to agree with my offer and I got the Duratracs for $155/each then mounted,balanced and got the road hazard warrantee and finally taxed it came to just over $800;in-store price would've been over $100 more total.

LOL.. I knew a comparison between the difference of tire and jean failure was coming.. The jean thing was just an example.. If it was my wifes car and she was going to be hauling my kids around all of the time I would probably say "no" to retreads..Hauling mostly just my butt around!! "maybe"..

How about this.. And I'm not preaching to go buy retreads I'm just trying to be open minded about it.. In this day and age of sue happy people I can't even come close to believing that a company like TreadWright could survive if they starting getting a few lawsuits because of tire failures..

Well, you've had 7 months. How are the Treadwrights doing?

If you use Discount's direct site you can save a lot and in my case I got my local Discount to price match the website on my Duratracs which cam ein at $153 per back in October but have jumped to $180.

The same Nittos for $208 and this was back in January can be had for $158 on the direct site.
