New Tires Opinion

I have the V8, Full time 4wd Sport with Xreas intact, and working great.

Time to replace tires. When I bought her, dealer threw on new tires for me. Cheapo starfires, which were actually good performance wise just did not last long.

She is a daily driver. Live in the mountains in Tn, rarely snow but tons of rain and curves.
I stopped by NTB and was recommended Nitto Crosstreks.

I want handling, longevity, rain stppping , lite snow and ice performance and low road noise. Do not take this vehicle off road. Also, 5 month old baby, so safety is biggest point.


Thoughts on the Nitto? If not,_other suggested candidates? Literally too many options out there. I don't need expensive bfgood AT T/KO which are great looking but really beyond my need. Had them on my last off road truck, and loved them...but noisy and road hard.

Clearly family car and looking for a bit more refined.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

For a street driven truck the Nitto CrossTek is a solid tire. They offer a semi-aggressive sidewall that looks good on an SUV yet a mild tread to keep things quiet. I have been running Nitto tires for years with great results.

You won't find Nitto being offered from Tirerack, so doing comparisons to other popular tires is tough. Nitto is part of a Toyo Tires. Some Nitto models are made in the US if that is important to you.

You can take a big step towards the right tire by simply isolating the right category. Forget AT.

Tire design is all about tradeoffs. Any tire capability unused means you've lived with an unnecessary compromise elsewhere in the performance.

Go with an all-season. It's literally very hard to go wrong with Michelin.
 
Up here in the North, we tend to stay away from all seasons because, well, our weather is pretty unpredictable, and in quebec its the law to have winter tires during the winter season.( thankfully i live in ontario).

I went with general grabber at2's and honestly, they are worth every penny. Cheaper then BFG AT, but similar tread. I also did not notice any annoying road noise too. Haven't tested them in the snow yet, but they do really well in wet conditions.
 
I have the Nitto Crossteks and have been through one winter and a bunch of other crazy Midwest weather and.....

I love them. They handle well, grip when they are supposed to, and after about 9000 miles, are showing no wear at all. They are quiet and were a good deal when I purchased them from NTB. I'm not a big NTB advocate, but they did a good mounting, balancing, and aligning my truck. I'm usually a Discount Tire loyalist, but they don't sell the Crosstek. It's exclusive to NTB and their sister companies.

Hmm ... I'm a little farther north than Toronto, and I run Michelin LTX M/S2 all-season tires year round.

Have had these on for just over a year (replacing Michelin Cross Terrains). They have very little road noise, and handle most conditions very well (even snow and ice).

Only drawback was the higher price compared to most other tires.
 
I had Michelin LTX M/S on a Tacoma. They had good tread life and seemed to do very well in ice. Not so good on wet grass. It is more of an all season tread. I like an all terrain tire. I have Firestone Transforce A/T tires on my Ram and LOVE them. They are so far the best tire I have had. The ride is quiet, perform very good in sand, mud, wet grass, slick boat ramps, and everywhere else I have been. I had BF Goodrich A/T KOs on my other Ram. They cost an arm and a leg and I didn't really like the ride. I never could get the bounce out of them at 45MPH no matter what I tried, and I worked in a tire shop for 3 years as a teenager. We used to true and high speed balance tires. We believed we could fix any tire shake. Michelins were always the easiest to balance and almost never required any truing.

You will find nitto on discount tire. Com yes, nitto is a division of toyo tires.

If you unsure of what tire to go with and throughly confused with all the choices. ... try looking on Craigslist and but a used set to try out and keep them if you like them or sell it back out on Craigslist.

I bought my bfgoodrich at kos for $240 15 months ago and put 18,000 miles on it. Just picked these up for $525 [MENTION=59048]S p a r k y[/MENTION]

previous owner bought them in January for 1280 and traded in the truck in June! These puppies can't have more than 5 to 6k

Yes, Nitto tires can be found on Discounttitre.com. But the Nitto CrossTek is not available thru DT. It appears they are only available from the NTB-Tire Kingdom dealer network. It makes it very hard to compare the CrossTek.
 
You have many options. I had the Nitto Terra Grappler which is Nitto's a/t tire and loved them. They were great in rain,snow and some mud. I also got 85,000 miles out of them. You can't go wrong with them. I live near Nashville. After my Nitto's were done I purchased the GY Duratrac which are a little more aggressive but I am really impressed by them.
 
Just to let everyone know what I went v with.

Fallen Wildpeak A/T. Great tire. I really enjoy the road characteristics. Only slightly louder than my previous on road only tires, but with better handling. They have a stiffer sidewall that on my sport has given me noticeably more aggressive control in corners.

My one mistake: they were only offered at pep boys... Who busted a cvboot. By the time I drove the 5 min to my home, grease was everywhere.

Took it to Toyota to have it fixed. Already spoken with pep boys and they should be reimbursing me. My guess is the fellow doing my alignment missed with a tool while trying to unstick my adjustment bolts.
