Not too bad. I think I may go that route. If they balance well, handle rain well, perform in moderate snow, off-road decent enough, I think we may have a winner. Keep us posted.

Well I got a chance to take the new tires through some good snow and ice. Foot of snow and random spots of ice on some fire roads. They did AMAZING. Best tires I’ve ever had for snow and felt better even than the duratrac’s I had on a Jeep once. Kind of was disappointed I couldn’t break traction as easily as am use to. Usually turn off traction control and am able to have some fun in 1st gear but was noticeably more difficult to break the traction on these in snow. Good problem to have of course. Also drove through more torrential downpours and they are amazing in rain too. Could not be happier with these tires.

Thank you for the update. I might have to pick these up. The Falken atw3 are really hard to find in stock. I still have not been able to decide if I want 255/75/17 or 275/70/17 though. So i guess that will factor in which tire I choose.

Living in Seattle I’ve gotten to test the heavy rain already so far so good. Ultimate test will be heavy downpour on freeway passing semi trucks that are pushing water into my lane. Will let you know how they do after weekend in the snow ice and mud. Out the door with all taxes and fees I think i got them for $840. $180 per tire before taxes.

Those look great. If the dealer hadn’t put new tires on the used 2017 we just bought I would definitely be looking at these.

Not the best photos but thought I would grab a couple after playing in a foot of new snow. Had these Ultraterrains mounted yesterday and just in time. Went with stock size 265/70/17 on our 2019 TRD Off Road Premium. These are P rated. Got about 25 miles of dry pavement highway in yesterday and then some in-town driving in the snow today. Early impressions are they ride smoother than other A/T tires I’ve had (Duratracs and KO2’s but those were both E rated, and they are quieter. Just a subtle difference from stock tires. Traction is great in the snow. No complaints so far.

I just found out about these tires and like them a lot.

I was attracted to the regular Wrangler Duratracs but didn’t like the sidewall appearance. These look better.

I also wanted something snowflake rated since I live close to Tahoe and also some snow trails that way, so I was biased towards KO2’s and Wrangler Duratracs, the only snowflake rated all terrains I knew about. Now I found these...

I wish they had 285/70r17 in C-rated, but I might have to just settle for E.

Also not sure if it really means anything but for 285/70r17, the recommended rim width goes as low as 7” instead of 7.5” at least on America Tire’s website. So then I can keep my TRD pro rims......

Here's my take so far.

- Quieter than duratracs, virtually ZERO noise up to about 60, then theres only the slightest hum.
- Better wet traction than the DTs, and awful KO2s i had.
- Weight is noticeable on braking, they're heaver than the DTs were, but lighter than the KO2s.
- Diameter is about the same as the DT's, less than the KO2s which are a tall tire.
- I could feel a bit of lateral sway in terns since the shop didnt inflate them as much as i prefer, will fix that later.
- I'm supercharged, and the DTs/KO2s would both wanna break traction if im making a right/left at an intersection, not much mind you, but just that little slip. Not as pronounced with these.

Overall I think we have a winner here.

Picked up some take off trail wheels that the guy just didn't care for and went today to get the tires. Kept things at stock size (265/70/17) and went with SL rather than E since I don't do any towing. As it turns out, it started torrentially downpouring so I got to test them in the rain on the way home. Love the look of the tire/wheel combo and don't find them any louder than the stock Dunlops. Handled the highway and city rain flooded roads with no issues. So I already dig them. Plus they gave me the Black Friday deal even though I'm 2 days early.

Curious how many miles you have on yours so far. My KO2's were fine in all conditions until about 35-40k when wet traction went to shit. My other complaint was they were completely impossible to balance. That said, I loved the KO2's for new traction. Just installed today, but they will be pit away as i swap to dedicated winters til late winter next year when i swap back. Will check back later when I have at least 5000 miles.

265/70R17 in SL load on my SCS Ray 10s in 17x8.5

Only report I have for sure is they grip way better in rain than the OEM Terra Grapplers (2K miles). Definitely a few lbs heavier on paper and acceleration kind of, slightly confirms it. Maybe aggressive tread has more rolling resistance too? MPG appears same thus far as stockies.

Sorry to intrude in the 5th gen forum with my 4th gen but I wanted to put my thoughts on these tires here since you guys have a thread on them.

Bought my 4th gen at the beginning of the year and it had the UltraTerrains on it already in 265/70/17. I've driven my 4runner for around 2500 miles since buying it and the tires now have around 10k miles on them. They do fine off road and handle decently on the street in dry and wet. But they are noisy! I also have a 1999 Tacoma that has Toyo Open Country ATIIs on it and these Goodyears are far noisier than the Toyos are on the highway. I also have a slight vibration in the wheel around 65/70 which I have experienced before with other Goodyear tires. I'm really not impressed with the tires due to this and would love to get rid of them but with only 10k miles on them, I can't justify it yet. They are wearing well and do fine otherwise. I'm swapping rims today and will see if a rebalance and rotation makes a difference.

I’ve had horrible experiences with Goodyear Ultraterrains too.

My stock Dunlop AT20’s were replaced with Ultraterrains under warranty for vibration problems. The Ultraterrains had much worse vibrations and shaking than the stock Dunlop AT20’s. I went through 2 sets and multiple balances. Finally America’s Tire let me exchange them for BFG KO2’s and they balanced on the first try.

I just had my wheels changed, keeping the UltraTerrains. Still noisy as hell. Can't comment if there is a vibration still since I never got it above 60 on the drive home. I'll live with it if there is tho and change them out later down the road for a set of Toyos like I have on the Tacoma. The Open Country ATIIs are a much better tire.
