New tires to the market Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT

Maybe I will just go with the tried and true KO2's that I've always had good results with. Or maybe the Wildpeak AT3's.

Both are good, in different ways, but I really like my new Mickey Thompson ATZ P 3. They are as strong as any radial tire and can actually handle mud all the while being surprisingly good on the road.

I was very afraid of the LTE rating and had negotiated that I can return them after trying them out, but there was no need. They actually ride BETTER than SL Wildpeaks with my heavy duty 650lb springs on 6112s and the same is felt with the Icon 2.0s in the back.

The SL Wildpeaks were great with 600lb springs but the LTE ATZ P3 is better with the 650 springs and with the Icons in the rear, which are more stiffly valved than the 6112s.

Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT | America's Tire

For me having an expensive, "best-rated" tire with traction rating of B is ridiculous. The temp rating in our size is unavoidably a B, at least for ATs, but B for traction? The Discount Tire Treadwell testing service also gives very low marks for noise. So it is not just subjective.

i dunno why so many have negative reviews. I've been loving mine. Way quieter than they duratracs, balance well, run true. They do bite into standing water, and the gas mileage doesn't go up wit them. But they give me the grip of the duratracs, while running as quiet as the KO2s i had (and hated because they're too tall).

I am loving my Goodyear UltraTerrain Ats that I had mounted 3000 miles ago. Great traction during heavy rainfall when I plowed through about 1 foot of water at 55. Also noticed my steering wheel shake went away after dumping the KOs. Stock size on 2014 trail.

If there's a difference in height its not noticeable. These are heavy tires though, and if I have one complaint its this...

Those do look nice! And I'm glad that you got four good ones. But I'll never ever buy another Goodyear tire as long as I have a choice. I have had too many of their tires that rode badly no matter what we tried.
I have Toyo Open Country AT3 on my Tacoma. They have a similar tread pattern and so far they're doing great.

Look kinda like the Falken Wildpeak AT3W but at double the price. That's very expensive for a tire of this size.

Maybe once upon a time the Wildpeak was half the price, but not now.

Currently on the Discount Tire site, in 265/70/17, both SL load range:

GY Wrangler UT AT is $206

Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is $190

Or maybe you were comparing just the purchase price of a set of Falkens, vs the installed price at a tire shop for the Goodyears?

You quoted a 3 year old post so yeah, I’m sure prices have gone up. Still one of the best, if not the best, AT tire out there.

Unfortunately, I can't agree: I've run a number of different tires for "off-roading", but never before had a flat while off the highway. I got a sidewall puncture last summer (2022) in one of these. In this case I only had to travel a couple hours to a Discount Tire to get a replacement (these tires are exclusive to DT). I could have been a lot further from a DT.

Maybe just bad luck and not an indictment of the tire? :shrug: At any rate, the next set will be something more "universal" so I don't run into trouble replacing one when I'm traveling.

(As for that price discussion, the issue was the relative difference between this tire and the Falken tire. Not simply the fact the price went up over time.)

wow it definitely doesnt look like a quiet LT tire based on that gnarly tread and sidewall design

interesting that it's only sold exclusively to one retailer though, i like seeing how tirerack benchmarks most of the popular tires
