It's not a scam, but he doesn't know what year it is. It's probably a 98 and he is just confused. Looks clean though.

That looks like the evergreen pearl which changed to imperial jade mica in 99

Doesnt necessarily mean its a scam.. he could be one year off LOL.

Also, if you dont want to spend money on a carfax, at the VERY LEAST, buy an autocheck. If you are looking for a car you can look up unlimited vin# for a month.

Autocheck will at least verify if the miles are legit, and can show you where the car has lived. sometimes accidents are reported.

Also, only reason I suspected scam is cause he's advertising out on state on CL and a lot of those ads are scams(they want to ship the vehicle). So the false info made it fishy..

Are the upgrades worth it to get a 99 or newer?

Yeah I always carfax ever since some joker tried to slip a salvage title past me lol
 
A few things:

1.) It's either a '97 or '98 with that steering wheel.
2.) most CL scams don't have a phone number in the ad.
3.) Jacksonville isn't far from Savannah, probably just trying to get more exposure on it.
 
Stop taking pictures of my ride! Just kidding,I only wish my interior was that nice,mine had 224k and cracked leather for 3800 so looks like a deal that clean,also carfax that baby,secrets suck after buying it!
 
I have a 99 tacoma and the cupholders alone are worth getting a 99+ IMO,or hold drinks in your lap! The" cupholder engineer" on the 98 and older models needs a quick face slap.
 
It's got the newer style 4wd button instead of it being on the stick like my 97, but it has the chrome bumpers making me think it's older than 99. If I had to guess it's a 98, but (at least by california standards) it's way too cheap. Be sure to check the name on the title matches the name on his driver's license.
 
That is a cheap deal I just sold my 93 with a new jdm motor for 5k almost wish I would have asked more for it sold it in 18 hours and had six people about get in a fight in the drive way over who was buying it.

NOT a '98 - they updated the steering wheel. That's a '97 or '96.

Limiteds of that 96-98 era had the button. As has been said before, that is a 96 or 97.

Looks clean. Probably just a confused owner. That would raise a small red flag, but not a major one.

If you had to pick between the original I posted and this one

1998 Toyota 4Runner Supercharged 4WD

Backstory: the supercharger was put on at 140k without any other engine or tranny mods at all which, I understand, is kinda a bad thing? Other than that, its really clean, nearly no rust under...

Funny, thats almost exactly what my buddy who wheels a 2nd gen said when I showed him and asked what he thought haha.. I've arranged to drive up and have a look on sunday. Ill let you know if I don't go through with it for some reason

It looks like the rear bumper has some rust. I'd take a very good look at the frame, particularly the inside frame rails, for signs of rust.

If it has serious rust, as that rear bumper leads me to suspect, I'd pass.
