New to Forum and Toyota :)

My name is Scott, my wife and I just bought a 97 4runner SR5 today with 136,000 miles. We really enjoy the car already and plan on keeping it for a long time.

The car has a 2.5 inch lift and I think just a magnaflow muffler or something, not a full exhaust.

I was wondering what the routine maintenance checks would be, any input would be great. I am not new to working on cars, but I would like to hear from some Toyota guru's first

At 136,000 I would assume the timing belt has been replaced, but you never know.

Rear axle seals are also a fairly common problem.

Yeah, the guy I bought it from said the timing belt was changed at 88k but I might change it within the year anyway.
I need to go buy a chilton's and haynes manual for the car

When was the timing belt changed? Ever?
At 90,000 it was due.
If you do need to have it done, go new waterpump, timing belt and thermostat.

I'm a big proponent of OEM parts also, you can get them for about the same price as the aftermarket, if you shop online.

Thanks for the scheduled maintenance bit, that is helpful. I mentioned in a post above that the timing belt was changed at 88k. I am also a big fan of replacing with oem parts, unless upgrading
