New to forum: Looking to purchase T4R

HI all! Excited to be here.

I found an excellent deal on a 2008 T4R but I had my heart set on a 2009. I know the rear is different so I wanted to ask if I can put the 2009 rear bumper on a 2008? Will there be any notifications needed to have that done? Or am I just completely wrong and they are exactly the same?

Feed back greatly appreciated. If I can change the bumper to make the rear look like the 2009, for sure I will have a a new car tomorrow!

Can you find pics of the difference?

I was under the impression that the body changed slightly in 2006 but was the same for all 03-05 4Rs and all 06-09 4Rs.
 
There is no difference between the 06-09 4Runners. The only differences you may see is between different trims.
 
NO changes- go for the '08 if it's a better deal. '09 had a "trail edition" with V-6 and locking rear axle as an option.
 
I called the parts department at a dealership and they said that there are two different part numbers for the bumpers on 09's O_o

I'm still going to look into it....

but before I saw all your posts I picked one up!!!!

I had the hardest time deciding between a black or white T4R. I originally was set on white but when I saw the black I had to think about it. So, after two days I settled on the black one. Don't have pics yet will post soon.

2008 Sport edition black, 29,164 miles for $23,592 +t/l. It was a whole sale place so it was priced as is. I was able to deal the white T4R down from 25,991 to 23 flat with 26,881 miles on it. Those were the two best priced T4R that I have found in the 8 months or so of searching.

Plans:

Add spoiler
Switch to Limited rims
Black out headlights (would love to DIY but might just buy, are there places that sell them?)
Add H.I.D. headlights and fogs (can both displays handle H.I.D.S? and is there a cut off line on the headlights for H.I.D.S? I'll also do a search)
Finally, add a system.

I'm coming from a 2003 Acura CL-S coupe 6 speed. I modded it and love it. I still have it but am debating whether to sell her or not. =0/

Either way, happy to own my first T4R!!!!

Looks great! And you got a good deal on it too! My 08 Sport Edition has a V8, but cost me a shade over $27k with 42k on it! I guess it also depends on where you are in the USA that dictates price.

btw...id get the chrome tailpipe end put on that thing too :guitar3:

Keep the stock projectors- very high quality and they work great with HID's and have a nice cut off. I recommend xenon depot's kit, I've been running it for 3 years with no problems. 6000k looks great with a little blue in it.

THANKS!!! Yea I was looking into the chrome tailpipe. Hard to install?

Thanks for the info. I'm going to do both headlights and fogs. I'll probably stick closer to 4300-5000K (I just like the bright white).

As for system, I've always been a big ALPINE headunit guy but I'm going to looking to others. I've been out of the stereo stuff for a few years so I'm going to do some research. For speakers, if I can get my hands on a set or 2 of the boston pro 60's then that's what will be going in. Sub will be a JL w3 or w6. I have a alpine pdx5 in my CL right now and love it so I might stick to that or just shell out more for some higher end stuff. We'll see.

Another question. I want an OEM spoiler. Best place to get one? I found a few sights but don't know if they are good quality or not.

For OEM parts I like Conicelli Toyota Parts Center. They have a big internet side to sell parts at a big discount.

As for headunits- I've always been an Alpine fan until recently. Now I like the double-din Kenwood Excelon navigation head units. They have Garmin navigation which is the best. I've had two and highly recommend them. Plus you can add a back up camera (I did), comes with bluetooth for phone calls, iphone cable (for $30), and I added the kenwood sirius radio box too. So between sirius, pandora, my iphone, CD's, you really can't run out of music to play.

The amp I have from JL fits great under the passenger seat and has power to run components in all 4 doors plus a mono- subwoofer. You can fill a stock JBL box with a JL sub, JL stealthbox makes one for 4runner, or go custom.

I don't recommend HID's in the fogs- they will probably glare others and then you ruin them for what they're supposed to do- put light into thick fog. You can mod the fuse box to run fogs and parking lights with headlights off too. Do a search.
