New (to me) 4th Gen

After having several other generation 4Runners I went on a brief hiatus with a Silverado and a Tahoe. Great vehicles but definitely not a 4Runner! Decided I wanted a 4th Gen Sport this time. I searched within a few hundred miles of me for several weeks before coming across this 06. Two owner vehicle with the first owner having it almost 11 years. It has a little more miles than I really wanted at 180K but with the condition and obvious care of the vehicle I was able to move past that and pull the trigger. Drove it home about 3.5 hours and a still can’t believe it’s an 06 with that many miles! Very smooth!

Let the mods begin!

So what comes first?

Not exactly sure yet. Well, I ordered a set of Weathertech floor liners yesterday, so I guess that was techinally first.

Likely suspension and tires. Just undecided if I want to go all out on the BOSS lift from ToyTec or something more simple like a spacer lift.

I was watching this guy Andrew St.Pierre on YouTube. He's built tons of offroad rigs. He mentioned that lift and tires should be the LAST thing you do. First, get all the bells and whistles you're gonna bolt on (winches, racks, bumpers, fridge, dual batteries, etc.). Then once you've got all the weight you do your lift and get springs/shocks/tires to match your load.

Needless to say I didn't do that. I got in a hurry for some extra ground clearance and did a secondhand Tacoma parts plus some FJ rear springs (cheap lift) plus some plus-sized Jeep Rubicon new-take-off tires. So...now that I've added a winch, fridge, recovery gear, etc. it squats back to about where I started. Just something to think about if this is going to be more than a daily driver.

Congrats on the find. Except for the fact that mine is a 2005 our 4runners are pretty much twins. Bought last summer with 178k miles and very clean and well cared for.

Sounds like we have a lot in common! I think I bought a Deltapoint pro from you once. Jumped into open for the season so I think the mods for the 4runner will be put on hold to stock up on components and such. The struggle is real.
