New to me: 87' 4Runner 4x4 SR5 22RE-5spd

Hey fellas,

I finally made a decesion on my expeiditon vehicle that will be taking me from the top of Alaska all the way to the southern tip of Argentina.

Found this one on craigslist listed for $3500 with a freshly rebuilt 22RE, new transmission, and new clutch. The guy who sold it to me was very honest and clear what had and had not been done and the current issues. I offered $2800, he countered at $3K and we had ourselves a deal.

I drove it home from Sacremento about 2.5 hours and it ran great, no overheating no problems whatsover.

It currently has a 3inch BL on it and an add-a-leaf and 33inch BFG Mudd Terrains.

First thing I would like to tackle is the suspension, I want to make sure it will be relialbe. I have heard alot about the OME as being the best of the best but it is fairly expensive for my budget.

What would you guys suggest? I have some pictures of the leaf springs if you would like to see their current condition. The shocks seem fairly stock, Toyo somethings

Not sure, it seems fine to me but Im a newbie. the FSM is on its way to get me educated.

I am not planning on hardcore offroading this thing but will encouter steep, muddy, and rutted roads and a few river crossings along the way.

Is there anyway to check and see if your leaf-springs are shot or on their way out? the rear seems to sag a bit to me but I am not sure waht I am looking at underneath

Apparently, I had some sort of downey setup, utilizing rancho poopy shocks. Still have the leafs and torsion bars if anyone wants em, but regardless all my shocks were like wet socks, no thank you. You wont be going backwards with new stuff, thats for sure.

Whats the interior like? I just bought an '86 a few days ago that looks just as good as yours on the outside but the interior is shot .

yep my interior is rough as well, probably be looking to swap in some front seats from another vehicle if i can find some

not sure what the easiest seat swap is in the 1gen, ive seen some tacoma and scion seats in other gens
