New to me 99 limited questions please

Have tried the search function with not much luck for some reason.

Well today I bought a 99 limited 4x4 w/128k miles. My first question is about the digital climate control. It seems unresponsive alot and sometimes takes alot of pressure on the switch to get something to work. Is my whole unit bad or can these things be repaired? Have searched ebay and had zero luck.

Second question is about the rear locker. In 2wd the light blinks, in 4hi it blinks, but in 4lo the rear locker light stays lit up? I can tell this 4runner has not seen hardly any off roading so I am sure it is stuck from lack of use. Any tricks to getting these things free'd up? I tried the turn in a slight circle trick with no luck either. This thing is supposed to engage in all the transfercase positions right?

Your rear locker only works in 4low.
Follow Matts link, he did the "blue" wire mod.

I have a similar problem with my 99 Limited. The AC/Defrost button doesn't like me sometimes. Lately it fixed itself, but a permanent fix would be awesome. Sometimes I'll flick the thing and it will work. Once it becomes a pain in the butt again I'll take it apart and see what's happening.... until then let me know if you have a solution.

Had the exact same problem with the HVAC on my 2002. All buttons would only work occasionally. I ended up getting pissed to the point where I punched it and broke the LCD screen, so I had to swap out the whole unit for a new one. Cost something around $650. Ridiculous. But expensive enough to keep me from punching it ever again:bash:

I read somewhere that if you remove it and clean it somehow (electrical cleaner or compressed air), you might be able to get some responsiveness back into the buttons
