New to the T4R world & NEED REAR SHOCKS

OK i have read a few threads and tried to research some but I still need some help from all the knowledgeable people on this site.
I have 1999 T4R Limited and one of my rear shocks is broken and needs to be replaced. I'm not ready to do a full lift just yet and only do some minor off roading on dirt trails. Going over parking curbs and trying to climb snow banks is hard as it goes for me. My truck is mainly a mall cruiser for the next couple years.
Now my questions, is it better to get a spring and shock for the back? Can i buy just rear shocks or will i just end up replacing them down the road when i do put a lift in. What do my fellow 4runner owners recomend? What kind of shocks?
If possible i'd like to keep the cost down without hurting the smooth ride.

Any advice you could share would be helpfull

Man, I wish I was a little further along in my suspension swap. I'm planning to upgrade to the Toytec Ultimate and I'd happily just give you me rear setup once I take it off as we have the same rig. My is in great shape and still works fine and would be the cheapest route for you but I'm not ready to order just yet.

Once I do make the swap I'll post up the parts in the linked thread but I'm guessing that will be to late for you.
