New UK Owner - Tundra Brake upgrade.

Hi folks,

Its my first post, so hello one and all from the UK

I've just bought my first 3rd Gen Surf (4Runner), its a 3.0 diesel, and I love it already. I've previously owned two single cab Hilux pickups over the years, but having two kids there weren't enough seats, so I thought in the future I'll have to get the Surf, and that day has finally arrived.

Anyway, I've got a few plans, nothing too major I'm more into cosmetics than anything else, but saying that something I've read a bit about is the Tundra brake upgrade.

My main problem is being in the cold/wet/dull UK, so getting the parts might be tricky, hence my post. Does anyone know of any companies that offer the whole kit as a package, ideally that ship to the UK, but the shipping isn't a major issue.

Something I've read over the last day or so is about overhauled (re-manufactured) callipers, but people saying they've gone with brand X and had to return them, this obviously won't be ideal for me in the UK, so is there a definitive calliper that anyone can suggest?

I'd want to go for the biggest callipers (13WL/231mm).

VERY nice looking Surf! and diesel too! Many of us here in the US would kill for a diesel 4Runner...

I don't have any input on reman calipers for you, but one thing to point out - your split 3 spoke wheels require some grinding to fit over the 231mm tundra brakes. Check out BFAD's thread on what wheels fit with no modification:

Cheers for the comments and advice guys. As for the wheels, I've read some people have used small spacers, I'm hoping I can get away with some to avoid grinding my wheels...

1/4" spacers will work with your stock wheels. I had them for a while until I got my bigger wheels. I would suggest getting spacers for the rear as well even though they are small spacers you can still see the difference.

You won't regret the upgrade. I did it last week and have been satisfied with the results. Does AutoZone ship to you for a good price?

Hi Robb,

I can't seem to find anything on the AutoZone site about International shipping, so I'm guessing they wouldn't ship to me in the UK. Out of curiosity, what parts have you gone for, mostly interested in the calipers, as I see these as the most 'permanent' part of the upgrade.

as far as complete kits. sonoransteel.com lcengineering.com/they're expensive because to my knowledge they're all oem toyota parts. but those are the only two companies that sell them complete to my knowledge.

Thanks for the links Frank, looks good, but as you say a bit expensive. I'd love oem Toyota parts, but I think the only part I'll strive for oem will be the calipers, no doubt the most expensive part, but I'll see what I can find, I wonder how much Toyota themselves sell the calipers for over there...
