what features were added and what were the complaints about the old unit?
It sounds like they made the playlists easier, you don't need to name them TOYOTA. The IPOD charging turns itself off after an hour, and the navigation was made a little easier.
I have no idea if it will work with the 6-disk unit.

Yeah, it took all of about 30 minutes to install. It's almost scary how easy the 4runner dash comes apart. The convertor works like a charm. I routed the cable and box to my glove compartment for a nice, hidden, no-drill install.
It says you don't need to name the playlists Toyota1 etc, but it seems to work way better when you do.

Will this adapter be recognized by rear seat audio? I had purchased a previous USA Spec model to use with a portable DVD player so the kids could use the wireless headphones while we listened to music up front. The RSA would not recognize the adapter as an input but I could use it from the head unit with no problem. I have the JBL 10-speaker system.

I too just ran it through to the glove box. There is ample room in there and no need to drill or make new holes.
Check out these instruction for taking apart dash to get to stereo. I followed them step by step and it made life very easy.

Does anyone here know whether the USA Spec PA11 works with the in-dash JBL 6-disc changer system with (10 speakers, no nav)? I have the rear seat entertainment system, but I have no plans to use it, so I don't really care about using it to listen to/control the iPod. (In case it matters: the head unit has the numbers "56836" printed on it.)
I'm asking because I just bought a 2005 4Runner on Saturday; I'd like to take advantage of the iPod interface and the aux input offered by the USA Spec, but I'm concerned that the stock JBL head unit won't have the necessary CD changer connections on the back, since the changer is already built in to the HU itself. I know others here have mentioned having the JBL 10-speaker, 6-disc changer but I'm not sure whether they're talking about the in-dash changer or an external one.
Incidentally, the Crutchfield site is telling me that the PA10 (a simliar, earlier model?) will work work with my vehicle (as they put it: "with JBL audio system; without Navigation system; with in-dash CD changer"), but it also says: "Factory stereo must not have Rear Seat Entertainment system" -- I'm not sure whether that means "if you connect the PA10, you won't be able to use the rear seat system" or "the PA10 won't work at all if you have the rear seat system."
Before I order anything and rip the HU out of the dash, I wanted to see if anyone here has any thoughts on whether this will work....
