New user help!

Hi guys, brand new user and 1st time 4runner owner! I just bought a 2000 4runner Limited Sport Edition with 160k miles on EBay, and absolutely love it. It was a local car, and is in excellent shape, carfax was perfect with only 1 owner. I'll post pics soon, but I have a couple of questions I was hoping to get help on since it didn't come with a owner's manual, and I've got 1 on order.

1. What grade or octane gas is reccommended? or what do you use?

2. How do you get the interior lights to come on when you open the doors? Mine currently only come on when you hit the button, and I can't figure or find out a setting/switch to have them automatically come on when the door is opened.

3. My radio works and so do the instrument lights, but the radio lighting flickers and goes out at times, but the radio still works. Is this common, or any known solutions?

4. I bought the car for $5450, do you think this was a good deal? I would rate it a 9/10 for a 2000. Engine runs very strong, paint is very good, and interior is leather, and very clean. I've had it 2 weeks now, and not a drip of anything on the driveway...

I know this is a lot for a new user, but I'm excited I found this forum, thanks for any input and help!

* I searched for some of these answers, and couldn't find too much, so sorry if these were posted...

Welcome to the Forum!!
There is downloadable service manuals on her somewhere. I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to find them for you, but have yet to. I have pdf service manual for my 98. I believe you can go on Toyota website and register your vehicle and dowload the manual. If I find it , I'll post it.

1. 87 will suite you just fine. I always run 89 though.
2. You need to set the switch to auto. Its located on your dome light.
3. Loose connection somewhere.
4. that price sounds fair. Has the timing belt been replaced/water pump? Service records? is it 4wd?

As far as the interior lights, mine has a 3 position switch for the dome in the front and a 3 position switch for the dome in the cargo area. The positions are off, on and door. When set to door, the lights come on when you open any door.

I didn't even know that they still sold 83

I could be wrong. :D

I never look, just press the button on the far right.

Now that I'm thinking about it I think 87 is the lowest. 87, 89, then 93.

LOL, well if your hitting the button on the far right, then your putting in 93!! LOL :D

Wow! LOL. Note to self don't post and watch TV.

I meant left.

On a side note, I would be interested to see if MPG would go up if I used 93 instead of 87.

You shouldn't notice much difference. The higher octane rating is for higher compression engines. This prevents detonation.

Awesome, thanks guys. The previous owner installed a TV & DVD player and replaced the dome light, so there is no switch, so I'll have to figure that one out. The lights up front only have the on/off switch. Thanks for the owner's manual link too, I was about to buy one on ebay!

The first few days I had my 4Runner, I didn't know about the dome light. I was annoyed that the two front reading lights didn't come on, but then a buddy was in the backseat and needed light, when he turned on the dome light (which I hadn't even noticed was there), I felt like such a re****.

It's all good now though... lol
