New V8 4WD Limited is home!

VERY nice ride, easily as nice as the X5 (which for reference was a 4.4i Sport Package).

The Shadow Mica color is off the chart!

Glad we went with "stone" leather on the interior - works really nice with the silver/black-wood trim. The wheels are actually like a light graphite, almost like black chrome, very cool.

So many smart details that Toyota thinks of - drink and water bottle holders, double visors (so you can turn one to the side window), the trunk floor that folds up into a shelf! Totally dig on the rear window (which actually opens - so rare on modern SUVs).

Motor feels very smooth, plenty of power, especially on the low end. Tranny feels super. Brakes also feel super solid.

Pics tomorrow when it's nice outside - this color is amazing with a little sunlight - has a ton of metallic flake. It's like a slightly darker version of graphite grey pearl like my Supra was

Read through the users manual this morning (even if everything is pretty intuitive, there's usually a few do-dads that are hidden).

I burned a MP3 CD (just dragged over the folders) - works great!! I was a _tiny_ bit bummed it didn't have the factory installed IPOD interface, but honestly, with almost 10 [MP3] albums per CD X 4, that's *more* than enough music. Plus the factory AUX port means I can just plug it in if I really want IPOD playback. (FYI, the AUX port in our X5 was like a $300 accessory...).

Got most of the NAV operation down now - this is one of the better systems I've use. The OEM NAV on the C6 Vette is kind of so-so.

115V direct power!?!?!? WOW. I had a little power inverter box from Triplite that we used to extend laptop power on long trips, but it created a ton of audio interference.

Holy crap buddy, I am a dork. Yeah, 98% coverage would be a little hard to drive with huh? Hahaha, like the vampire car in Near Dark.

I pulled out the Window sticker and looked at the supplemental stuff added by SET at the port and the tint says: Window Tint UV rating 98.5%-99%. So I guess that's the UV blocking! The actual tint opacity looks like a [Florida] legal aftermarket tint job. Nice that it's just covered under the full factory warranty.

Here's a few pics - this was in the garage with a flash (it was cloudy/rainy yesterday, nice and spooky for Halloween). I'll still get some GOOD pics in the sun.

I took a closeup of the sideview mirror where you can see the intense metal flake (like blue and red) in the paint.

You got to get pics outside and of the front end. I want to see the body color grille on Shadow Mica. I think Im going to switch the chrome piece out on liftgate for body color and maybe grille too.

Did a coat of Z5 (I'll do Z2 layer next, then lather, rinse, repeat ). Got it in just before it rained! (so zero water spots).

We also had our first off road experience in the new ride! Headed down to the point (corner of the intracoastal/ocean), had the Nikon with us so it seemed like a great photo op!

I also switched over to 4LO which was probably not needed but figured we'd give it a try

I think it's an upgraded hitch, like a Class IV - it was part of their package and probably not needed, but all their cars seem to have it.

I kind of like it both ways - the chrome gives it a little extra contrast (and would match al the badges), but the body color makes it look very "finished" (if that makes any sense.)

That pic from the beach was under low light and a little overcast. I really want to get a pic during sunrise (same location). I bet that will be +amazing+

Hahaha, yeah, I'll add like 200lbs worth of polish over the next few weeks.

One thing of note: the T4R is also *much* smoother offroad than the X5. The Sport package we had gives it a very stiff suspension which is great for onroad handling, but made it very harsh and jarring on anything uneven (which was a compromise by design I'd say).

yeah the 4R has roots in the offroad world

my roomates GF has an 08x5 and it is ONE SUPER SMOOTH and very nice SUV, but I would say strictly for onroad use (in stock form) even tho it too is AWD etc..

Still nice to ride in/drive for the speed now and again

The other beefier hitch is the weight distributing hitch on late 2003 and 2004+ V8s. The hitch on yours is the V6's weight carrying hitch. The V8 hitch is good for 7000lbs 4WD and 7200 or 7300lbs on 2WD. The V6 hitch is good for 5000lbs.

This is the easiest way to spot a V6 or V8 from the back.

all 4th gen 4runners come with tinted rear windows from the factory. only the front windows are not tinited.

nice truck! it is practically a luxury suv so you wont miss the x5 at all.
