New Window Tint y'all!

I just got my window tint done today! 20% on the fronts, backs, and rear window and 50% on the windshield. In total $380. They used Madico or Global window films in case anyone is wondering. It's great, like wearing sunglasses! Sorry about the mad glare, it was really sunny out.

agreed. I think that will probably have a negative effect on the lifespan of that tint job.

But it does look really good, this has been on my list for a long time. I guess your not to worried about NOPD with that windshield? I know you probably wont get any heat for the sides being darker then legal but the windshield might draw some attention.

Also, shout out to the one other louisianian on this board.

Never mind, they didn't put it on the outside. You're right, that's not how you tint windows, that's stupid. I got confused because I watched on of the guys redo one of the windows because there was a smudge that they didn't see and the boss came and looked at and said that it has to be redone. They did something on the outside of the window, but they didn't apply the tint to the outside of the window.

If you spent $380 for them to put tint on the outside major rip off, I paid $160 to tint limo black all around except for the front windows at a local shop near me but they tinted from the inside.

It's darker than it looks, it's really not that noticeable at all, plus I have a guy who can hook me up with inspection stickers every year. It's something that I wonder about sometimes but it's really hard to even see where they cut it around the black part on the edge of the windshield. The space b/w the black part and the tint looks like it's about 1/2 of a millimeter. I'll take some more pics of the windshield if you want.

not necessary but thanks for the offer. i appreciate it. Also, glad to hear they did put it on the inside. good luck with your starting issues.

Thanks with the starting issues, I have no idea what it could be, possibly spark plugs... oh well. I'll figure it out eventually. They DID NOT put the tint on the outside. The previous owner got 50% put on the front 2 windows only and it looked great from what I could see (no fading or discoloration, no bubbling, etc.) The tint shop said that it has a lifetime warranty so if it ever gets damaged at all or fades or anything, I can bring it back and they'll redo it for free. It's nice to get stuff for free nowadays!

haha in california tinting the front windshield is a felony! and tinting the side windows is illegal, its just a fix it ticket though. freaking commiefornia, cant do anything fun!

Sometimes they'll lay the tint on the outside in order to cut it the right size. That's probably what you saw. Then they install it on the inside.

How noticable is the windshield tint? I've been wanting to do that to mine to combat the Houston summer, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal in TX. I don't really want to do something that screams, "I know the city's broke; come write me a ticket."

Nice;I'm getting 20% on our 2012 Focus next week and doing 5% on the sunroof. Can't wait as I hate factory tint and it really enhances the look just as much as being functional.

The place is charging $220 for a lifetime job.

Looks nice. And yeah, you probably saw them cutting the windows out on the outside of the windows, thats probably what got you confused, but its installed on the inside. Just make sure to use a non-ammonium based glass cleaner when you clean your interior windows!

Tint looks really good man! I always tint my windows with 5% but on my new 4runner I think I am going to tint the windshield also since I am moving back to Texas

$380 ?!?!?! Holy moley ... that's nearly 3x what I paid for 20% all around and 50% on windshield.

Dont feel bad about paying $380. Prices for tint are going to vary depending on what region of the country you're in. Obviously if you're in California or Arizona, its going to be cheaper because so many people get their vehicles tinted. Also depends on the quality of install and the film used.

And I thought Georgia was bad about tint. 32% Max on front windows, 20% rears and rear windshield. Oh, and they actually check during stops too.

I have 35% on the front, 20% rears, 55% windshield in my Mazda 6. It's a revelation compared to untainted glass. Highly recommended.

The pics don't really do the windshield justice. Unless you really look hard at it, it doesn't look tinted at all really. I love the tint, keeps my truck so much cooler!

Good window tint costs good money. If they used a quality film then you got a good deal. Film on my 4runner was $589 for the sides back and sunroof, another $225 for the windshield. This is for really high end film, SPF 30 all the way around, 3M Crystalline 70 on the windshield and 50 on the sunroof.

Beware of tint "deals" typically they use dyed films that will fade and turn purple in a couple years.

We put a LOT of 3M Crystalline 70 on windshields here at work, like 6-8 vehicles per week and in two years I have never heard of any customer getting sited for it. And we get lots of clients who recieve fix it tickets for the front windows, but never a windshield that light. Technically you must maintain a 70% VLT (visable light transmittance) on your front two windows and windshield in California. Your glass from the factory meters about 88% if I remember correctly, so if you put a 70% on it comes down to about 60%, which is pretty hard to tell. No one has ever gotten in my car and said they noticed the tint on the windshield.

We put some 3M CS20% on the windshield of a benz a couple weeks ago with 5% all the way around to boot, thing was crazy dark inside, frankly I am suprised he hasnt been back to have it taken off yet.
