Window tint and clear plate questions

Seriously... What is a clear plate? If its PPF (or another term, clear bra) then call it what it is!

And Bronco, that irritated me a ton too, when I was driving up there today the salesman told me that I needed the tint because 4Runners don't come from the factory with tinted windows. I told him straight out he was full of crap, that they come with the "factory tint", which is not a film, covering everything but the front two windows. He flat out lied to me to try and get me to keep the tint option. He also lied and said they were the only dealership in the area that doesn't do a 3-5k markup. I told him that was a lie, that I'd called all 5 surrounding dealerships, and remarkably, they are ALL "the only dealership that doesn't do a markup..."

Just a quick note: the factory “tinting” is really more of a privacy feature, it does not perform well at all with regards to heat rejection. That being said, you made a good decision to not use the dealership for tinting, they usually overcharge and use cheap tinting materials.

I thinking quality ceramic tinting is worth every penny, especially living here in Texas. If you ever do decide to go with quality tinting, just do your research and pick out the most reputable place you can find.

I'm pretty sure it's PPF. I think he said they only do the hood and the two side mirrors, but I could be mistaken. Whatever it was...I paid $900 for it. :hurt:

$900?!?! Wow! Mine was also added to my car for $600, full bumper, full hood, 1/2 fender, side mirrors, 4 door cups, 4 door guards. I added the A pillar, front roof, and headlights for an additional $50. You should be able to see the film (almost like a clear vinyl wrap) where they applied it, look at the edging. If you don't see anything, it probably isn't PPF.

The dealer can't force you to add this. It is a "dealer option" not a dealer "requirement", of which there is no such thing.

If it were me, I'd contact Toyota and tell them the dealer is forcing and threatening you into something you don't want, to buy one of their products. I am guessing I am older than you? I'd walk away and find a new dealer and wait a little longer. Extortion and manipulation makes me angry.

I'm 63, so older than you, I think. The problem with calling Toyota corporate is by the time it gets worked out, the car the other poster wanted will be sold to someone who was willing to pay the price. These are strange times.

No issues, and if you ceramic film, you'll be able too see out!
