New Window Tint y'all!

Good window tint costs good money. If they used a quality film then you got a good deal. Film on my 4runner was $589 for the sides back and sunroof, another $225 for the windshield. This is for really high end film, SPF 30 all the way around, 3M Crystalline 70 on the windshield and 50 on the sunroof.

Beware of tint "deals" typically they use dyed films that will fade and turn purple in a couple years.

We put a LOT of 3M Crystalline 70 on windshields here at work, like 6-8 vehicles per week and in two years I have never heard of any customer getting sited for it. And we get lots of clients who recieve fix it tickets for the front windows, but never a windshield that light. Technically you must maintain a 70% VLT (visable light transmittance) on your front two windows and windshield in California. Your glass from the factory meters about 88% if I remember correctly, so if you put a 70% on it comes down to about 60%, which is pretty hard to tell. No one has ever gotten in my car and said they noticed the tint on the windshield.

We put some 3M CS20% on the windshield of a benz a couple weeks ago with 5% all the way around to boot, thing was crazy dark inside, frankly I am suprised he hasnt been back to have it taken off yet.

$589 is still a good deal on your 4Runner. Crystalline is insanely expensive material.

It's most likely quality film. The previous owner tinted the fronts only to 50% (why, i have not idea) about 5 years ago and there didn't appear to be any blemishes or anything on it, no fading to purple, bubbles, etc. They used the same stuff that the previous owner had put on on what they just tinted mine with. Neat.

I dont have Crystalline on the whole car, that would have been $749 without the winshield or sunroof. I didnt pay these prices, but that ish is expensive!

I have SPF Films on the majority of Pancho. It is a spectrally selective film that is manufactured for my work. It does not posses quite the performance of Crystalline, but it comes close and it also comes in 20 and 30%, where as the darkest shade of crystalline is 40.

And I thought Georgia was bad about tint. 32% Max on front windows, 20% rears and rear windshield. Oh, and they actually check during stops too.

I have 35% on the front, 20% rears, 55% windshield in my Mazda 6. It's a revelation compared to untainted glass. Highly recommended.

That paint job is SEXY! I almost like it more than my silver! Tint looks good. A lil steep on the cost but looks great man.

The Focus' window tint (used Llumar) came out great and really changed the feel inside along with a whole lot cooler. 20% on the sides and 15% on the rear and sunroof. The 4Runner's sunroof is OEM tinted and it needs to be way darker so i'm going with 15% on it next month.

Window tint update!

It was great while it lasted but sadly, I had to go get another inspection sticker last week. Needless to say, I failed. I had to get my tint stripped from the windshield and the 2 fronts, but the backs were fine (thank God!). I now have 50% on the fronts and nothing on the windshield. Going to get another inspection sticker (around these parts we call them Brake Tags) tomorrow and then get the two fronts redone in 5% (hopefully). Pics soon (maybe).

Thanks man. I liked the windshield tint for a while because it blocked out a lot of the UV rays and kept the car really cool in the summer, but at night my eyes would do something where the oncoming traffic would actually hurt my eyes more than if there wasn't any window tint. It was a blessing and a curse. In short, don't tint the front windshield unless you have medical problems which necessitate windshield tint. Also, if I hit a ped, and the ped had a good lawyer, they could make it look like I had a trash bag over my windshield and sue me for all I have. For now at least, :amen: IT'S OFF!eace:
