New Wipers?

I was reading the post about the frozen icons and I think that's a rare situation that that would happen and I've gotten a lot of snow miles on my Icons and they've been better than any wiper I've previously used in my life. Yes,they do need a shaking off every once in a while in extreme cold and snow but they've been performing great for me.

They are made from Silicon Rubber and Teflon. I'm still running the same wiper blades that have been on my jeep for quite a few years and through some rough winters. They wipe just as good as they do the day that I got them. Trust me, I too was skeptical at first....but I now run them on all of my vehicles.

BTW, Icy conditions are icy conditions...when you get out to your car and your wiper is frozen to your windshield....it doesn't matter if you are in Texas or in Virginia.
 
My 4R has the Rain-X Latitude, and right now they are working pretty well under the snow downfall here in Philly

I may have to check them out then. Odd why their warranty has changed as someone pointed out in a previous post... wonder what that's about. The issue I have with my Icons is this: heavy snow falls/collects on windshield while driving, defrost is on full blast to keep wipers from freezing, snow melts on/above/below wiper blade (partly due to friction, partly due to the defrost), then refreezes thanks to sub-32 degree temperatures. I also am anal about getting a clean wipe of the windshield, so I'm a bit tired of hopping out of my car at every other intersection to slam the blades a few times on the windshield to knock the ice off...

Yeah....I'm not sure why either....I just noticed that. It used to be a 5 year warranty. Either way, I've got three sets....one that, like I have mentioned, is pushing, I'd guess, 5 or 6 years....another that is 3 years and the set on my 4R is 1 year and they all work flawlessly.

On a side note, Silblade does not make a rear wiper for the 4R (because of the strange mount), so I picked up an OEM blade for the back....after about a year it is worn out and not working well at all....the fronts (Silblades) are still going strong!
 
Well, I just called Silblade and asked about the warranty....the lady said that they were having a lot of people who were returning the blades just before the 5 years was up with, what appeared to be damage inflicted by the customer. She said that they were finding it difficult to prove that their blade was not defective...which is why they changed the warranty.

frigg'n people man i tell you......... if your blades lasted for 5 years buy a new set instead of screwing a good company with a solid product....i really hate "people"... you guys rock though:driving:

Well, that's too bad. Few people that mess it up for everyone else. But I also have to be skeptical of the company as well. So granted, some were pulling some shady tricks, but what about the honest ones? Couldn't they decline the obvious customer-inflicted damaged blades? They could still process the warranty claim of the honest ones, right? And not cut out the warranty period, screwing everyone over? And if there were many blades coming back, is that a quality control problem? Too many questions, too many variables, that I'd rather not take the risk on $60 blades, especially now that there is no warranty.

The lady said that they were having difficulty determining for a fact that they were customer inflicted damages. She insinuated that they just couldn't gather enough proof to decline the suspected warranties...

It does suck that some people take advantage of the system and things change for all.

She did say that any blade purchased before December 2008 (when they changed the warranty) still carries the 5 year warranty.

Either way, I will still use their products. I have easily made my money back by using these blades and not having to replace them every 6 months-year.

They also make a windshield spray that I use that works awesome! I use it on my 4R and Corolla....spray on...wipe around and it helps bead water off for about 2 months.

Ive used them all and so far my favorite are the PIAA wiper blades. Very good in all elements that ive encountered. Sub zero temps, snow, rain so on and so forth.
 
Costco has Goodyear wipers for $8 + tax. I picked up two 17" wipers for my 2000 T4R. They didn't have the 14" one for the rear, though.
 
The 14" rear blade is a dealer only part but I think i got mine for $11 so it wasn't as bad as I was thinking.
 
Tons of great info in this thread.

Ended up going ICON on my '05. Just put 'em on - more snow headed for Denver / mountains this weekend. Party.
