I am seriously considering purchasing an 06 4Runner Limited so I test drove an SR5 today (no limiteds on the lot). When I test drive a new vehicle it is hard to analyze all that is going on and there is no way to tell how something might become anoying over a longer period of time. I am a little concerned with what I am reading in the forums. Is the fact that the seats are low to the floor bothersome? I don't remember finding it that much of an issue but that goes back to my comment about test drives.
Another concern is the timing of the 07s being on the lot. There aren't any 4Runners I am looking for here on island nor will there be next month (which is as far out as they can look here). Would it be foolish to place an order for an 06 because the 07s are about to be out?
Also struggling between V6 and V8. Not only power but 4 wheel drive systems.
All of this is probably covered throughout the forum but I couldn't find all of it and also wanted to know what you guys (the experts) could share with me.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions.

I just bought my limited about 4 weeks ago and so far no complaints at all. I don't notice the seat being low to the floor, but I also went from driving a mustang to the limited so I might be a bit impartial. Also regarding the 07 4runners, the dealer told me that the 07's wouldn't be out until October or later. But they also could have been telling me that just to get me to buy sooner. I got the V6 simply because I don't need the extra power. I don't tow anything, but if I did I would have gotten the V8.
 
With the '06 undergoing so many changes, i doubt that the '07 model will have any significant changes.
 
First off, the 07s are not that close. You will see a 07 V8 about Jan. 07. There is always the next model coming out. As far as the seats, the Limited has different seats and brackets then the other models, with more adjustability. Also the 06 Limited has heated leather memory seats, with power lumbar. The V8 and V6 have the exact same 4wd system, the only difference is the V8 is full time and the V6 is selectable (2wd + 4wd). The choice should be based on first whether you want/like the most power, just to have. Then consider if you are going to tow, up to 5K lbs for the V6 and up to 7K lbs. Both engines have great power and torque and both are more then enough for most everyone. The V6 obviously gets a little better gas mileage but not much more (1 to 2 mpg).

Regardless of which model you get they all are great vehicles and you will not regret getting any one of them.

If you get the Limited you may what to consider the XREAS and rear air suspension.

The 4runners seats are low to the floor compared to previous suvs I have driven. However it does not bother me at all. I drived on 18+ hour road trips and am very comfortable on long drives. My back used to cramp up with in an hour or two in my last suv but in the 4runner my back has never acted up. The seats in the 4runner fit me well. (im 5'11")

Do you have a preferance on if your 4x4 system is fulltime or able to be put in 2wd? v6 has 2wd as an option while the v8 is fulltime.

I am suprised your salesman can't find one in their database that meets your specs and do a dealer trade for it. Thats how I found my black sr5 with the V8 combo I was set on. If they know you are serious they should be willing to try and find one with what you want. It's worth a try........

Since my other car is an IS250 I didn't really notice the seats that much eaither.
Here in hawaii there is only one company that owns all of the 4 toyota dealers and the one Lexus dealer. All the dealerships are connected and when he searched for vehicles, he searched all the dealers. Also, the vehicles come in only 4 different packages. They are pretty well apointed and all of the Limiteds come with X-REAS suspenssion. There are only two packages that have the moonroof (which I want) but one of those has the third row seats which I do not want (useless in my opinion, too small).
I am looking forward to going back to the dealer to place the order!

I didn't notice you were in hawaii. Yeah that might make it a little bit harder to locate a vehicle for you.

Hmm...if that is true, then maybe it's time for me to return to the 4runner family....:D And i would DEFINITELY get an '07 4runner with rear locker over FJC!
 
I'm 6'1" and I haven't had a problem with my seats, though the longest trip was about 45 minutes. I also haven't had the problem with my thigh hitting the center console. Only thing is from time to time my hair will graze the headliner. I have the moonroof. My suggestion would be go back to the sales rep who gone with you on the test drive and ask him if you can sit in the truck for a longer period of time. I probably spent 45 minutes inside a Sport and checking out the various nooks, crannies, pockets and playing with the seat position and getting comfortable in the front seat and the rear (in case if I have a passenger behind me).

It's really hard to predict when the '07 would actually hit the lots, I think the '06 made their appearences in September '05 and in November '05 there were still a lot of '05 Tacomas, '06's didn't appear until late November and December. (The redesigned Tacomas were very popular and most dealers didn't have many on their lots, my Taco was ordered.) But then again, '07 Camrys are available now.

If you place an order, where your truck is configured and sent to the factory's build schedule it could very well be a '07. NUMMI, the plant that builds Tacomas, Vibes and Corollas, is about six months ahead of the calendar year. So June/July they're starting to build next year's models. I believe Japan built cars actually begin next year's models in April, which makes their arrival right about August. It takes about three to four months for an ordered vehicle from Japan to arrive, myself and a few other members have ordered our 4Runners and took delivery in about that time frame. However, if your dealer can get into the manifest of what configurations are destined to arrive at port either in HI or other regions and they're able to divert a truck over, it would be a much shorter wait and probably an '06. But that doesn't seem likely as your dealer isn't able to locate one for next month's schedule/manifest. I'm not sure if it's different in HI, my dealer gets an allocation update every two weeks, that's how they kept track of when my ordered 4R would arrive.

Thanks for the input. I went to another dealer today who had a Limited on the lot for me to drive. It was a V8. I loved that ride. I paid more attention to how the seats felt (Driver's, front passenger's and rear). The seats are quite a bit different between the Limited and the others. A better different.
I just found out that there is a possibility that I could deploy for 6 months in January. If that is the case I don't want to buy a truck now and then have it sit for 7 months (including work ups prior to the deployment) unused. That would mean that when I got back in July of next year, the '08s would be ready to roll onto the lot. I hear that is when the next re-design is due.
Man! What a mess!

I got mine from Windward Toyota last 2004. I visited all Toyota dealers in Oahu (including Internet sales) and got a quote from all of them. They all have the same parent company (ServCo) but they had different prices. Windward was the cheapest and the friendliest, internet sales came a close second.
 
The new '07 4Runner is coming out in 4Q'07.

The all-new Tundra is coming out Dec'06 - Jan'07 and will have all the spotlight early next year.

No, the new '08 4Runner is coming out 4Q'07. I'm not speculating on this one. Trust me. And I was wrong in calling it an '07 model, it will be an '08 model.

No more Toyotas are coming out this year, unless the very very slightest chance that the next gen Tundra makes it late December.
