newb question........

My brother has a 97 limited.... Just replaced his Alt by Advance auto's part #......24 hrs later, alt goes "kaboom".

date of manufacture was 07/97 does ANYONE has the OEM part # that I can cross ref or do I just need to go with a 98 part #? According to Advance's computer, there is a part # change mid-year... Anyone???

UPDATE + ?

Ok, so I replaced the Alternator again, and this one failed too. One had a bad Voltage regulator and the other one had a bad diode pattern...Is this normal for re-manned Alts? if so, What is the best (cheapest) place/brand I can get and not have this problem?

I am 2 hrs away from home and really need some help here...I apologize for not searching, but time is of the essence.

Ive used remanufactured alternaters and a bunch of other parts and never had problems. I dont go to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto , never trusted their parts. I only go to Kragens or a small local parts store that seem to have all the odd parts that no one carries, they carry in stock, along with everything else. If you have gone through 2 alternaters, i would get a refund and buy from another shop.
