greetings gents. I wanted to introduce myself and say I hope to have a long and extended stay. i didn't see a specific forum for new members, so i'm throwing my name out there in here.

a few months ago, i helped my gf shop for a new ride. she was set on a new honda pilot, mostly because it comes standard with a 3rd row, but the only thing she could afford was a stripped down base model with 2 wheel drive. nobody was trading in their used ones. something that large should have 4x4 when the weather hits.

anyways, i'm a devout toyota fan, as i have an 89 supra and a 06 tC (daily) now and had other supras in the past. we found a 02 4runner sr5 at the toyota dealership, and she signed for it that night. she found that a 3rd row wasn't that big of a deal. it had just under 27k miles, since it was a lease. the truck is silver, her favorite car color. i'd hate to see a pink 4runner. i don't remember the price, but it was an excellent deal. i believe it had been sitting on the lot for 9 months from a date on a stat sheet that was in the glove box, which probably helped the price. the only major issue with the truck is that the rear passenger doors squeak when they're opened. i just got to remember to find some wd40 and lube them suckers up.

she's driven the truck for a few months now, and completely loves it. she thanks me almost every week for having her get it. we take it every where, and don't have to struggle with kids/people trying not to trip to get into my tC's back seat. (my supra is for joy, and i rarely have passengers).

and the roll-down rear window is one of the coolest features. that thing is down at least half way whenever the weather is nice. who needs MPG-robbing A/C? i now wish my tC's rear window had some louver system. that would be so cool as long as it was designed to stay sealed when shut.

we've taken it "off-road" once in the field area next to office max when there was a little snow on the ground. that was awesome, and i tried every gear out. when i tell people about my "experience", they shake their head like i was vandalizing. LOL. i tell them that it's practice in case we get into trouble and slide off the road.

the only modification i've done was install a JVC cd/mp3/ipod head unit, RF amp under the driver's seat and a 10" DVC JBL sub in the trunk. the bass hits great, and i might replace the stock speakers soon.

so, what do you guys recommend for easy and worthwhile mods? i tell her a non-hick brush guard would be cool, but she thinks they all look redneckish. there's no fogs, so maybe i'll find some OEM looking ones to install.

TIA for the welcome.

Matt

if the rain holds up, i can post up some pics later when i have a chance.

oh, i forgot. (almost). i had a keyless remote start system installed soon after she got the truck. that's a really nice addition when it's cold out. for her. i don't mind walking out and sitting in the seat while it warms up.

Greetings and welcome.... an 02 with less than 27k is a good find! I also really like the remote rear window but I wish I could make it go up aswell. Just a quick hint on that window, the window lock switch on the drivers door doesnt stop the remote from working but it does stop the dash switch. I paniced for 5 mins once when I thought the dash switch was broken and the rain was coming...
As far as mods go, I suppose it depends on what you like to do, do you want to improve offroad ability, do you you like cosmetic stuff etc.... ?? Have a good look around the forum and I'm sure you'll find plenty of interesting and informative threads.

thanks guys.

i snapped a few pics last night while it was raining.

panic:
where's the remote rear window button? the only one i know of is the one located above the HVAC. unless there's another one on the stock key fob.
my gf's remote is aftermarket, and is basic. that remote does have a button for a trunk release, which isn't being used. i've wondered how hard it would be to connect that button to the horn. then i could press the "horn" button from the other side of the parking lot and scare people.

as far as mods, i was just wondering what some basic ones people have done. we probably won't take the truck off road that much (unfortunately).

do you guys have any good suggestions for a license plate? she's been trying to think of something good, and only has SGR MMA for sugar momma. i think there's something better than that. :P

The factory key fob has 'lock', 'unlock' and 'rear window down' buttons, and a panic button on the back that blows the horn repeatedly. Search '4runner remote' on ebay if you want to see one.

ah, that's a cool little remote. well, she likes her remote start option. but, i'd go for the OEM toyota :D

i think i'm going to give my hand at the deckplate mod. shouldn't be hard at all to complete.

but, i know that there's some mods the supra guys do like upgrade the headlights on a 93 with a 98's headlights. put in the HVAC unit, taillights, front bumper from a 89+ into a pre-89, and other OEM trades.

i am thinking about finding some OEM fogs for the 4runner
