Newbie: Fuse problem help

I'm a newbie here to the forum; I hope someone could help me out.

Just bought a '96 4Runner SR5 yesterday from a local dealer. I drove it home at night for the first time and noticed that the lights were out for the climate control and dashboard lights for transmission gear selected (i.e. P, R, N, D, D3, D2, etc; I assume it should be lit somewhere). The vehicle didn't come with the owner's manual. I opened the fusebox thinking it was a blown fuse, but I can't make sense of all the different colors and numbers on the fuses; I did notice that one fuse appears to be missing (the left upper most one). Can anyone help me out with some advice?

well... if you look at the fuse lid, the inside of the lid should have a pic of what each fuse should be used for and also the amp rating.

Take a look to find out which fuse you have to check and go from there. if not, i'm sure someone with the service manual would be able to help ya out in more detail..

Thanks for the reply. I checked all of the fuses and they appear to be intact. Does anyone know if the climate control in the '96 is supposed to be lit? Maybe a light is burnt out behind the climate control (how do you access that?). Also, is there a gear selector indicator light on the dash (or only next to the gear shifter on the floor)? It appears that the right half of the bottom of the dash is dark where the left half indicator lights appear to be working? Is my light out or is there nothing there to begin with? Thanks again all.
