Newbie needs some help

Hello all, new to the site, but not new to forums in general. I was wondering if anyone has experience what i am dealing with now, any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have a 1995 4Runner, SR5 V6, with about 198k on it, i have been the original owner since day one. Over that past few years i have had some mechanical issues that have had the truck on and off the road for long periods. I just had a mechanic fix the last issue, but now there seems to be some electrical gremlin going on... Here is what i am experiencing....

Ok when the truck is running, all is well, when idling everything works fine. When the truck is moving, in gear and driving down the road, if i use the windows it blows a fuse and the windows, AC and instrument cluster stop working. Also i just noticed that today, when i put the truck in reverse the same fuse blows.

As i mentioned, when the truck is NOT in gear, and sitting, i can use the windows fine, no issues, but when i gear and i use the window, it blows the fuse, and same when putting the truck in reverse.

My mechanic had tried swapping the instrument cluster and that didnt have any affect.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? any info would be helpful, thanks in advance and thanks for reading this.

Which fuse?

Manual or auto trans?

sorry good questions, it is a manual transmission
ok when looking at the diagram of the fuse box it looks like this

ok i tried doing an X and O thing with a basic diagram of the fuse box but that isnt working, so when you are looking at the fuse box, the part the looks like a Tic-tac-toe board, the CENTER fuse on the tic tac toe board is the one that keeps popping

it would be the 10 amp fuse dead center, the "0" i put in the middle

I don't know anything about the 2nd gens...sorry.

But, I did have problems with my clock & interior light fuse blowing ( 1st gen with 5 speed )
Turned out to be the cruise control module. Once removed, everything works now.

There's a 10A fuse that appears to be common to the gauge cluster, power windows & locks, cruise control, rear window defogger, DRLs, rear ABS, and some other stuff.
But I can't see where a manual trans would figure in.

thanks, i appreciate the replies..

Bump for anyone would has experienced this, would appreciate some help.

Thanks everyone

I would not trust a mechanic that just replaces a part, only to see if it fix's the problem. Have you watched your volt meter to see what kind of voltage your alternator is putting out at idle and above idle? It may be creating some sort of power surge when you are above idle in normal driving conditions.

thanks i appreciate that, and you are correct, this person comes recommended from a friend, and is a Mercedes Tech. So far he has been really good and honest and fair with me.

Now quesiton, would the alternater be the reason the fuse is blowing when put in reverse, or using the windows in gear?

Yuck. I have a '91, and had SOME of the same window issues. I never noticed anything blowing when switching gears (I've got auto), but the fuse would blow when I tried to use the windows.

My problem turned out to be a window switch (they fry a lot, but almost all toyotas have the same switches, so they're really easy to find). It sounds like a short between the window circuit, and the gear selector circuit.

1. If you remove the fuse in question (not just blow it), the windows, cluster, and AC ALL go out correct?
2. Is it only a certain window that will blow it?
3. Is it only the drivers switch or will any of the switches blow it?
4. Is it one of those big square fuses, or the smaller blade type?

Any easy, but dirty solution may be to disconnect the gear selector sensor/switch.
