newbie question

I have an 01 4runner ltd with 103,000 on the odometer. I have owned it for about six months and its been well maintained by previous owner and now me. I have all service records and everything has been done on schedule.

in the past 2 weeks I noticed when I am at a complete stop and want to accelerate nothing happens. No engine rev, no movement. I take my foot off gas pedal and push down again and it starts off with no issues. This has happened a few times off and on in the past two weeks. I took it to dealer and they found nothing, no codes, and couldn't duplicate the issue. This only happens when I am at complete stop and start to accelerate and it doesn't happen all the time.

Any suggestions on what else I can check? The CEL is not on and it drives fine other than for this.

Try cleaning your air filter and throttle body. I had a 99 Honda Accord with the same problem.

okay thanks. The service tech did say the throttle body looked a little dirty but nothing major. I had the fuel injection service and throttle body cleaned 3 months ago, I guess it wasn't done correctly or needs it again. I also replaced the engine air filter at the same time but I will check it now to see if its dirty. Thanks again.

Sounds like a dead spot in the throttle position sensor.

+1 on checking the tps. It is one of the few parts that has been replaced on my 3rd gen but i think a cel came on when it went bad.
