Hello, all! I have been lurking for a while since I got my 4runner in mid-May but figured I might as well join.
I currently own a red 2000 4runner SR5. It has 207,000 miles on it but still runs great and has been very reliable so far.
I have had the struts replaced as well as the rear shocks and, boy, does it ride much nicer now!
In the near future (6-8 months down the road after graduation) I hope to go ahead and make the Tundra brake swap, at least on the front, and I will also be needing new tires within that same time frame.
A couple days after I got the 4runner I made a trip down to Georgia from the Cincinnati area to drop a friend off at the start of the Appalachian Trail and I was amazed at it's fuel economy. Averaging a little under 70 on the interstate I was able to get 22 MPG. That mileage lasted through the summer and then I started to see a dip since then down towards the 17 to 18 range. I am sure cold weather has a little something to do with it but I have a feeling something else could be playing a factor: what I'm not sure yet. I recently replaced the fuel filter, but haven't seen any improvement in the MPG from that.
So, I will be browsing for information on the following over the next few months:
--Front brake assembly swap (want to switch to the 231mm)
--Best new tire recommendation for every day use but something which is still capable in the snow and in mild off-road conditions (I know, I know I'm looking for the silver bullet)
--Reasoning behind a reduction in MPG on the highway and ways to bring it back up to speed
I definitely plan on doing a good amount of research on these three topics but if anyone knows right off hand a good thread on any of them please send the link my way! It would be very much appreciated.
Hopefully I will be able to add some advice of my own down the road. My dad has owned 4runners in the past and out of all the cars he has owned says his 1993 SR5 was one of his top 5 favorite vehicles of all time. I love mine so far, I just wish it was a 5spd :shrug:
