Newbie w/ Q: Side Curtain Air

hello,

i'm in market for new 4Runner.
how many of you with SR5 or SE have side curtain air?
it seems like SR5/SE with side curtain air is almost impossible to find (i'm in so cal). my thoughts are it's better to spend 5 600 dollars on side curtain air and i really do not want to have a car w/o one.

I would get it. I am a BIG fan of side curtain airbags! Unfortunately, as you found out, these high cost options are usually not available on the lower end models. It took me a long time before finding a base Highlander V6 with side curtains. Same goes for my Corolla.

after looknig through toyota site once more,
it seems only limited 4runner has side curtain air as option.
(EDIT: let me correct myself, side curtain air is an available optioin on all models even though it's very hard to find)

would you also please confirm that 4runners w/o side curtain air do not come with regular side air bag?

The side/curtain airbag package come together. There isn't a stand alone side airbag option.

If you don't mind the drive, shop for one in Nor Cal. All 4Runners (any trim) pretty much come optioned with side and curtain airbags.

It is true. I have one and all the 4runners on the lot at the dealer had side airbags/curtains

Hey Alex,

I got mine at San Francisco Toyota from Cory Ellerbee, internet sales manager. Shoot him an email, and let him know what you're looking for. You can check Nor Cal configurations by using zip code, 94118 (SF) or 95112 (San Jose, South Bay). For the most part Toyota's site using the zip code is pretty accurate, but Cory can give you the specific options or packages that are available off the lot.

SF Toyota isn't as big some of the other dealers around the Bay Area, but they are growing and a new location is being built. IMO the rep makes the difference in the buying experience. By far the best purchasing experience I had--quick, easy, no nonsense and straight forward. My 4Runner is the second Toyota I've bought from him after the positive experience with my 2005 Tacoma. Both the Tacoma and 4Runner were ordered, which I didn't mind since no one else drove or touched them.

You may want to try Piercey Toyota in San Jose (south of San Francisco). They usually have 2 to 3 SR5 4runners on the lot priced around 27k. All of the 4runners had the side/curtain air bags, V6, and 4x4.
