Newbie with 2000 Limited

Hey guys. Wednesday I traded in my G37s Coupe for a 2000 Limited with only 60k miles on its. This is my first SUV, i've always driven sporty compacts.

Its super clean but has a few issues radio does not light up at night (oh well i was going to replace it soon anyway) infact most of the dash lighting is really dim. Is this common??? I'll probably take this opportunity to swap in some LEDs and change up the color scheme. Also the power antenna still moves but is bent so i was thinking of replacing that with a "whip" antenna.

So with in 24hours of ownership i've already done half of the deckplate mod (drilled the 4" hole) Is it necessary to actually install the deckplate? I've also removed the intake silencer. Not sure how i feel about that mod yet. It was FAR louder than i was expecting. Do aftermarket CAIs make that kind of drone as well?

Have you checked the car fax? Usually if the dash lights are dim, it can mean that it's been replaced and not hooked up correctly.

Will that be specifically listed? I saw 0 redflags on the CarFax. This thing appears to have been babied.

Register the vin on Toyota.com/owners, then it can show you any maint. done by the dealer.

The lights are more dim than the g37's dash lights, I don't think they're so bad that you'd think something was wrong though. I hate to state the obvious, but there is a dimmer switch, perhaps it's too far to the left?

The deckplate doesn't have to be installed, no. The reason it's installed is to provide a watertight seal for the folks who want to take their 4Runner swimming. If you don't plan on doing that, there is no reason for it.

So after taking another look at the carfax report, i do see that the radio was replaced back in 2002 at 12k miles. That seems a bit strange but not a big deal, or is it?

The gauge cluster isnt too bad aside from the god awful color. It did take me a little to find the dimmer dial and made sure its rotated fully clockwise. The back light for the LCD on the AC unit is so dim i cant see the display. I saw a write up on that on this forum so im confident i'll be able to fix that.

I dont know about removing the running boards. Yeah it will definitely enhance the "offroad" appearence however im short so i like them, and im pretty sure if i need to take my mom somewhere, she wont be able to get in without them... Maybe when the 4runner get regulated to "winter beater"/off-road toy duty i'll yank them.

First off, welcome.

I don't think there's much to worry about having the radio replaced.

As far as the deckplate, you don't HAVE to put the deckplate in, but it's a good idea if you ever plan on being around water.

definition of a truck is a self propelled motor vehicle with body on frame construction and open top cargo area.

4Runners are SUV's built on light duty truck chassis, CUV are cross over utility vehicles built of car chassis and are unibody construction.

Don't fret that CD player. They are complete junk (mine didn't light up when I bought it used either).

Invest in a Double Din new deck with bluetooth and you'll modernize your T4R for like $500-700 pending on the deck.
