Newbie with a Question

Just traded my 1997 Chevy Z-71 with 200,000 miles for a 1996 4Runner SR5 with 177,000 miles. It has the 3.4L Engine. It seems to be in great mechanical shape.

I'm running about 2300-2500 RPM on the interstate at around 70-80 MPH. Just checking to see if it is normal. It feels a little high but my Z-71 ran around 2000-2200 rpm at the same speed.

I just wanted to get some feedback and checking. I'm pretty excited about saving some gas money and driving a 4Runner.

70-80 is a pretty big range but that sounds about right. I sit at about 2100-2200 at 75.
(pulling that out of my memory or my ass, not sure which one right now)

What size tires?

Unless you had a big block in the chev, might even lose a couple mpgs, not to burst your bubble.
I thought the same thing when I bought mine. Had a 95 powerstroke sold it, bought the runner thought is save a ton in fuel. Ha gets worse mileage but supreme is a little cheaper so it works out the same, only difference is $55 vs $155 for a fillup

That's usually what's mine is at. My dad mentioned something last week about it being that high. He thinks it's cause it's a 4 speed auto vs a 5 speed. I had an old Kawasaki Z1 that idled at 2000...think Japanese vehicles are normally like this.

Just bought the wifey a 2012 Maxima today. (she still hasn't driven it) Took it out tonight to play with the paddle shifters, it was at about 2200 at 80 MPH in 6th gear. You're fine with your 4Runner.

Thanks for the responses. Just getting used to the 4Runner. Hoping I do get better mileage. Z got about 14-16 hwy.

On a recent 3.5 hour road trip, I had my cruise control set at 75mph going there. I used about 3/4 tank of gas.

On the way back (same route) I set cruise at 62mph and I used less than 1/2 tank of gas.

My rpm's were at approx 2200 - 2500 in the 75mph range.

made a road trip last summer, got 14 mpg on the way there with a 30 mph head wind at 75 mph. On the way home got 19 mpg with no head wind at 72 mph.:cry2:
