Just picked up my first third gen 4runner. Totally stoked for it, 2997 4wd 4runner, with 5 speed trans and rear locking diff, I mean what else could you ask for right?? Got it for a deal because the clutch needs to be changed or it atleast seems like it. I have some mechanical experience, I've had rigs before but all were 22r so real easy. Well what is a sure fire way to verify your clutch needs to be changed. I mean I can drive the truck just shifts like poop, I've bleed the system and it had a new master when I got it. Also I find it did that when I am in a gear and driving I can hear a whining coming from my sounds like trans, because if I just rev it with the clutch in or in neutral I don't hear a whining, so I with that being said, I have a I think like 1984 to 1995 Haynes repair manual, would the directions for checking trans gear oil and refilling be the same for my truck?

I think tomorrow I will adjust the pedal free play as well and see if that helps, for the clutch. I'm thinking maybe I just remove the clover at the bottom of the bell housing to inspect the clutch.

Anybody got some ideas of where they would start?

I just thought about it, opening up
That cover at the bottom of the trans would only show the flywheel side opposite of the clutch, damn spoke to fast lol
