Hi guys, a newbie here. I don't have a 4Runner yet but am looking at buying one this month. Just wanted to let you guys know that this is a great site that has been very informative to me. I can't decide if I want to V8 or V6 though. Not pulling anything, so kind of leaning to the V6 but I just want the V8. Don't need it, just want it. Probally get a Galactic Gray Sport. Wife likes the color, I prefer Black though. Oh well you can't always win! Gray looks sharp too. What are your feelings on the Engine? Also do you like the Full-Time 4wd or prefere selectable? Thanks for your input!

I gotta tell you there are alot of threads on both of your questions. I would do a search and you will find everything you are asking about and more.

Welcome. You can tell by my sig and avatar which I liked. :D I had the same feelings about the V8 but I was also coming from a previous V6 4Runner. I was apprehensive about the full time 4x4 but that lasted about 30 minutes. Since you never get ice, it's not as much of a consideration for you. I like it in heavy rain and all kinds of conditions.

just my opinion here, this seems to be a very touchy subject here.i chose the v6 because i much preferred the way it drives and feels with the fourwheel off.don't get me wrong,i think all runners are great trucks.go test drive both and whatever u feel suits u is a good choice.

I like the Galactic Grey. Black is hard to keep clean and gets HOT inside on hot days. Mine is green and I love it.

The V6/V8 dilema has been hashed out in numerous threads. Do a search and you'll see what we mean.

Either engine is great though, but get what you WANT or else you'll always have that nagging feeling of what you're missing.

Welcome to the board. I have to agree that if you buy a 4Runner, you will be happy no matter what engine you get. In my case, I got the V8 for the full time 4WD. I like an SUV to be in 4WD all the time and I didn't want to have to remember to shift each time the weather got bad. Also, I liked the feel of the V8 and the 5-speed transmission that it came with (In 2003, the V6 had a 4-speed transmission. Now that is not a factor in 2005 as both engines have the 5-speed transmission).
