Nfab install on a TE 4Runner

Received my Nfab step bars the other day and today I attempted to install them. The instructions are for Tacoma Double Cab T0589CC, T0580CC, T0678CC, Access Cab, T0576QC, T0678QC, and FJ Cruiser T0654FJ. Would these instructions work with my 2012 TE? The install seems pretty straight forward except when I go to install them the bars don't line up at all. There is a black strip that runs along the bottom of my TE and there is a piece hanging down near the back wheel that is getting in the way, not sure if I need to remove that black strip or is it that StreetSideAuto.com just sent me the wrong bars?

Anyone install them on a TE that can give me any help? Thinking I'll just take these down to Duc's shop along with my Konig's when I order them.

Just sent StreetSide and email since I just missed the open hours for their customer service.

The Taco bars wont fit on your 4Runner so I think they prob sent you the wrong bars. What is the part # on the box, check it vs the # for the Trail.
 
They have the part number T1064R written with a sharpie on both ends of the box. The invoice also has the right part number.

Hopefully someone here has installed these on a TE and can give me some tips or tricks to this. Will try the install again tomorrow and will have a second person with me just to make sure I'm not crazy. Hopefully StreetSideAuto will email me with the right instructions so I can see if the nerf bars are right or not.

mine had said they were for tacoma double cab etc etc, make sure you orientate the bars correctly
meaning for each side the hoop on the end with no extra bar should be towards the rear of the 4runner

Yes that's how I had them. The instructions also say the same. I'm just hoping it was me trying to install them by myself, going to have help with it this afternoon so hopefully that works out better with me on one end and someone else on the other end to keep it stable.

Still not sure if that black piece is going to be getting in the way. I know I was reading about the NFAB install's here and someone with a TE was having a hard time but can't find that post.
 
Flip them around.

When I installed mine (also from StreetSideAuto.com), I noticed the exact same problem, although I've got a '11 TE. Trying to follow the Tacoma directions just wasn't going to work, but when I swapped sides to put them on (so, opposite of the instructions), they fit like a champ.

Was actually just thinking about that. Was looking at other people's install of the Nfab's and noticed that the curved part was at the front. The instructions have them facing the back where there is a black plastic piece hanging down and blocking them. That's why I was thinking they were the wrong bars at first.

Anyone know what size bolt this is that you have to remove first to get the Nfab nerf bars on?

I can get all of them off except for the ones on the front, driver and passenger side. It's only one bolt but I can't even budge it. All my wrenches and sockets won't fit any of the bolts, had to use an adjustable wrench to get them off.

Thanks for any help guys. Might have to go to the hardware store later this evening to see what they have that will help.
 
IIRC the Nfabs mount the the rocker panel mount bolts, yes? should be a 12 or 14 mm, you are using metric sockets? :shrug:

Thanks guys. I have a 13mm but it does nothing but slide, no grip. Bought a couple more tools, more hexagon sockets with a 13mm in it. Getting ready to try for round 2.
 
Finally got them on, needed a new hex 13mm socket to get it. So much easier when you have the right tools.

Installing Nfab step on 2013 4Runner TE

Thanks to this thread, me and my two sons installed both sides in under 30 minutes. Next week, grill guard. Thanks guys!

The factory Toyota bolts are 12mm, N-Fabs bolts are 13mm. I didn't have a torque wrench available to torque them down to the recommended amount so I used my German wrench and got them "gutentite." Jumped on them and stuff, seems to be no issues, next time I'm at work I'll fix it though.

Just installed these in under 20 minutes by myself. Very easy to do with just yourself due to the light weight of the bars. One you figure out that the directions are jacked up and backwards it's easy from there. 5 bolts on each side and you're done.
 
how were you guys able to mount the steps while keeping on the oem rock slider? instructions say to remove but i like the look with them on.
 
it depends which model you have. some models/years have a rocker trim that gets in the way, esp the limited, and you have to remove the rocker, change it to a different one, or cut it. also depends on which country, my canadian 2012 sr5 has the same rockers as the usa trail, and needs no modification to run these
