I can see the point of the 40 yard dash based on the quote above. Sure, there are exceptions (e.g Jerry Rice 4.6; Terrell Davis 4.7; Emmitt Smith 4.7; etc.), but the general concept is true.

That was a good read. It was pretty interesting. They bring up a valid point about the timing. If it is done by stopwatch, it might be a tad less accurate than official timing sensors. Although an Olympic sprinter running a 40 may have different times than a football player because the sprinter is running that speed for 100 yards, while the football player only has to keep that pace for less than half the distance. I ran a 4.4 40, but never broke the mid 10's in the 100. I was always high 10's.

I played basketball, and ran track. The funny thing is, I was a long jumper/triple jumper. My 100 times were always high 10's. We had guys running mid to lower 10's, so I was not really needed there. That was a long time ago though. I am 34 now. I am more into weightlifting and getting strong.
