NHRunner's 99 Highlander

Looks good, I'm actually in southern NH but will be making it up to the lakes region at some point this year. We should meet up and cover some trails

Sounds good! I'll be home from school at the end of April. I'm pretty familiar with the good trails in the area but there are too many that I can't run alone. Make sure you check out the ExploringNH forum if you haven't already. They do well organized stock/modified friendly trail runs all summer long! THatfield mentioned he could be in NH in the summers too.

All tuned up! 1.7 on ch 1 and 1.5 on ch 40. Ill need to tune again in a more open area when I get the chance. This is a 4 foot hatch mounted firestik with a Cobra 75 wx st. Pretty standard.

Just updating a little about some maintenance work I've accomplished over the past 6 months.

I had a really bad vibration between 60 and 70. I could barely produce any noticeable play in the rearmost ujoint, but figured I would replace it anyhow.

I used a greasable ujoint from NAPA. Using real Toyota ujoints would probably have been best, but I needed mine in a hurry and it only cost me $19.99. The NAPA ujoint I chose: NAPA AUTO PARTS

The Camelback page with ujoints for a '99 are linked below.
1999 Toyota 4Runner Parts - Camelback Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Parts - Free Shipping

Here is what it looks like once you have pushed the ujoint through one side.

As you can see in the picture, this rusty part is the cause of my vibration.

Grease was not making it to the endcap and bearings because it was a little stopped up!

My vibrations were all gone. I can now hear my tires for the first time.

I haven't updated in a while, but a lot has changed in the past year. For starters, my lift is in. I went with Eibachs over Bilstein D558s in the front and the new Toytec 3" progressive coils in the rear. Despite the back order, I got a pair of Boss rebuildable rears. From the old 99 talls, I gained a full 3" front and rear. I kept the airbags which are teed together to maintain as much flex as possible. Going from 2 blown Monroe rears and a 247k mile suspension, I have to say the ride is incredible.
In the past year I’ve stayed busy fighting rust and wear parts at almost 250k. For maintenance items I have done:

-rear lower control arm bushings

-2 Monroe stock rear shocks (both blown in 6 months)
-rear axle seals (oem, didn’t bother with bearings)

-rear diff breather extension to the gas door

-replace 2 front wheel studs and lugs. NAPA carries a nice identical replacement for wheel lugs.
-valve cover gaskets with new pcv valve/grommet and resealed half-moons.
Also did upper and lower plenum gaskets at the same time.

The valve covers may have been nasty, but the valvetrain was a nice golden color.

-replaced seized parking brake cable
