Nitrogen

So I was looking on Compcams earlier this week and decided to shot them a email seeing if they had and cams that would work on my 4runner, yes I know LCE has them but I was just looking around. I got a email back today saying they didnt have any but could build one but it wouldnt be very cost effective and then he suggested that they could piece together a ZEX nitrous kit for me. My question is has anyone heard or know anyone that is running a nitrous kit and a SC? I have a 01 limited with a SC 7th injector and all that stuff and was wondering if that would work. Tell me what you think I love getting new knowledge on this kind of stuff.

Yes, I've worked on a few vehicles with SCs and nitrous. They were all sports cars or dedicated race cars. IMO, putting Nitrous in a top heavy SUV is just asking for a rollover. :lookout:

ok so you have done the 7th injector, what else have you done to it? adding nitrous will not be such a great idea on your stock motor. how many miles do you have on it?

140k miles. deckplate mod, ISR mod, headers, transcooler, electric fan mod, exhaust, rear simulator mod, 2.2 SC pulley wanting to do a bigger AMP and the big 3 mods. I doubt I will actually do the Nitro mod just wanted to see if it was possible. I just like talking bout threads I havent found on here just incase someone else was thinking bout doing a Nitro mod.

most of your internals are not up to nitrous, like rod bearings or eat up some valves and the like i think you would fine if you did do this that you would like to use it, and end up having to rebuild your motor sooner than later or have a major failure. sounds to me like you have plenty of power already with the SC, 7th inj, headers, exhaust, and 2.2. its not a race car, what more do you need?

Haha I dont need anything else just get bored sometimes and like to do the what if game with my 4runner plus its always fun to do diff. mods and have something diff. on your 4runner than everyone else and yea if I did get the nitrous I would look into getting my rods and stuff redone or w.e would need to be done

Well like the classic movie 'A Christmas Story".

"you'll shoot yer eye out, kid"

Except in this case.

You'll blow yer engine up, kid

I actually thought this thread was going to talk about "Nitrogen" in your tires instead of regular air.

I think he (Nunyabiz) meant your thread is mis-labeled. Nitrogen (as it is titled) and Nitrous Oxide have two completely different uses. Searching for "nitrogen" on the forum will bring you to this thread which is probably not what the searcher was looking for.

Other than that, I can't help you with your N2O query. Good luck.

Tim

This.

Definitely not worth the time, effort and cash for Nitrous on these trucks. People already report pinging with just the blower even with the URD kit. This isn't a race vehicle so unless you live your life a quarter mile at a time I would say stick with what you've got.

A quarter mile is about as far as you would get..

Get a Nitrous system. Make sure you get a wet one. You will be fine. As long as you don't cheapen out and get a dry system, it should prove to be durable.

Don't forget to get the bottle warmer.

You should be able to keep up the best of them up to Pikes Peak.

If and when (the big word is IF) you blow the engine up, I have a great replacement one for you and I am local.

Haha I knew there was a catch somewhere in that advice.
