NJ Pine Barrons

An afternoon drive in the Pine Barrons of NJ. As crazy and congested as North Jersey may be, South Jersey has miles of wooded areas with old dirt "roads" that are great fun with the 4runner.

Not a great picture of it but notice the TR4.ORG sticker on the driver's side rear window.

Nice pictures. What town of NJ is this in? BTW, I finally know whose truck I saw with a t4r.org sticker. I definitely saw your truck a few months ago on Route 537 in Jackson, New Jersey. It looks good!!

One of the Escape forum members from south Jersey always used to go to the Pine Barrens. He always managed to scratch the hell out of his paint because of narrow trails.

Although I'm not really into off-roading, I'd like to check out the Pine Barrens someday, but I'd be pissed if I scratched my paint. Did you scratch yours?

Maybe if I had an older vehicle I'd get into some off-road stuff, but not in a brand new $30K SUV.

Ya know, it just occured to me that we hardly ever see a picture of a black Sport Edition on this forum.

Seems to be kinda rare around here.... and that's a shame because a black SE is one of my favorite 4th gen combination.

I was in Wharton State Park, in Hammonton, NJ. The park has trails all over the place. The navigation system was a big help.

As for scratches, I noticed one small one on the driver side's mirror. I hadn't seen it before so I assume I got it there. Some trails were alot wider than others. The first pic was a wider one, and the second was a little on the tighter side. There was another section (no pic) that was very tight and just wider than the 4runner.

The navigation system had the trails mapped?? That's good to know.

I know that Acura navigation systems (MDX) have a bread crumb feature that allow you to venture far off road and still track your path, because most off-road trails are not mapped on the software.

My Nav system shows alot of the old trails. The Park is about 30 miles south of me and was all mapped out on the nav system. Around here, it shows the old dirt roads too. A few are overgrown to a point that you wouldn't think it was ever a road. I have confirmed that they were roads long ago from some folks that have been in town for many years.

I live in Hammonton, but I scratched the shit out of my '96 Tacoma in the woods here. I guess you gotta know where to go? Was the trail you found wide enough for your 4runner? If it was can you tell me what road it was off of. I'm dying to see how this baby handles in the mud.
