No Bass in sound system

So I just picked up my first runner after years of searching. I am a toyota nut through and through and my 98 tacoma has great sound from the factory sound system but the 4 runner i just got has terrible sound quality. Its a 98 limited. I decided it must be the factory head unit, considering my tacoma does good and this one doesn't. So i swapped in a sony head unit from one of my landcruisers that are not being used right now and it sounds no better... not even a little better. Any ideas here guys? Am I missing something or do 4 runners not have decent sound systems?

I did have to pull what I believe is a amp from behind the stock radio to hook up the wiring harness, the metro type that allows me to keep the stock harness without cutting any wiring, but the sound is pretty much the same.

Reinstall everything you took out. With everything back to stock, use the bass adjuster to adjust The bass. It could also be bad speakers or wiring.

For pure sound quality I think mine is great but for bass... not so much. I think I have mine set for my ipod adapter and its like bass 5, treb 3, mid 3, bal L1, fade R2.

keep in mind the 4runner is a bigger space for the massive door speakers to "bass-ify". best bet will be to get better speakers (stockers are paper cones, break down and get weak/blow) or add a subwoofer/amp to the setup.

Yep they do not have good bass.. overal sound isnt bad but bass is lacking - i suggest something like this

And to everyone else... I guess I'll have to add speaker upgrades to my list of mods, looks like I'll get to go back to my high school years and build me a sub enclosure. The wife is gonna love it. :hats off:

I think my stock system sounds great. I have everything set to 0 but bass, its a +4. Its not a hard hitter on bass but its far better than most cars factory. In a few months I'm adding a single 8" sub just for that little extra bump. I don;t feel I have to have the sub but I want it. So yeah look for a blown speaker or ditch the factory speaker wire and run new heaver gauge wire. (I assume its a small gauge like most other cars) Me... I'm going to change out the deck and add a sub, going to leave the stock tweeters and the speakers in the doors.
