I just found this board, and looking forward to learning form the members. I am an old ASE, smog, break and lamp certified auto mechanic, who in 1979 changed from Auto mechanics to building trade. General and Electrical contracting.
I have a 2000 4Runner with V6 engine. Eddie Bauer colors of course.
So here is my first request with help:
My JBL combo (radio, tape and CD) player developed the blinking and later no illumination problem when the lights are on. The face plate does not come on either with radio on.
After making sure there is power at the appropriate pins, and inspecting the internal parts of the unit and the external amplifier for any obvious signs, it seems that the problem is at the connector from the external amplifier to the radio.
The past attempt to secure the locking connector with zip-ties failed. This time; I slightly twisted the (+,-) tabs from the light switch to insure good contact and retied the male and female connectors with a differently routed zip-ties. So far so good.
Any suggestions for a better solution is appreciated.
